Romelia Senki Volume 3 Chapter 4 part 3

“G-General Gamb…!”

Her voice quivered as she looked to the old general—only to find a fearless grin on his face.

“Pathetic! I see through their ploy! Worry not, Princess Helen. Those things are nothing but intimidation.”

He dismissed the massive dragons with a scoff.

“True, those dragons are terrifying. Each is easily worth a hundred knights. But only a hundred. If they had dozens—no, hundreds—they’d be a real threat. But there are only six here. Even if more are hidden, ten would be their limit. At most, they’ve added six hundred to a thousand soldiers to their forces.”

His assessment was coldly rational—neither overestimating nor underestimating the enemy.

“No, the real threats are the armored giants and those Raptor cavalry.”

While Helen had been fixated on the enormous dragons, General Gamb was already scrutinizing the armored behemoths and dragon riders.

“Rejoice, soldiers! The enemy has brought us dragons! This is your chance to earn glory as dragon-slayers!”

His rallying cry turned terror into opportunity. The soldiers, their morale shaken by the dragons’ appearance, now roared in response.

Looking toward the other nations’ headquarters, Helen saw their soldiers, too, shouting in defiance—each eager to claim the honor of slaying a dragon. Their bravery was unbelievable.

Then, from the western forest, a smaller infantry unit emerged, guarding a group flying the dragon banner—likely the Demon King’s commanders.

The Demon King’s army headquarters was established in front of the forest, where the dragon’s flag fluttered.

Helen squinted and saw a demon in red armor standing under the dragon banner. Next to him was a demon in white robes, about the height of a child.

The demon inred armor standing beneath it, exuding authority. Beside him was a smaller, child-sized demon in white robes, frantically issuing orders with a staff. And there, too, was another dragon—unlike the massive beasts or the Raptors. Its body was flat, its eyes round and almost… cute. Covered in hard scales, it matched the myths’ description of the Ankylo, the armored dragon.

Beside it stood a squat demonkin, stroking the dragon’s head.

Helen shifted her gaze back to the Demon King’s army and saw the soldiers halt their movements. The demon forces had finished forming their ranks, and now, several neat square formations stood arrayed before her.

The heavy infantry’s shields formed an unbroken wall, while countless spears pointed skyward. Behind the infantry, archers stood in orderly rows. Between the infantry units, cavalry waited at the ready, their steeds neighing impatiently. Behind the cavalry, the massive dragons stood alongside armored giant soldiers. Around the command center, smaller demonkin stood in formation with dragoons as reserves.

Beneath a dragon banner, a demon in crimson armor raised his hand. At his signal, the trumpeters lifted their trumpets and blew a resounding fanfare. The Demon King’s soldiers roared in unison, shaking the earth as they began their advance.

Hearing the trumpets and war cries, Helen gasped.

On the vast plains of Dailas, with the fortress of Gangaruga at their backs, the battle had finally begun.

Facing the advancing demon army, the forces of the Heirent Kingdom and the Hovos Federation held their positions, waiting behind their stockades and earthen ramparts, shields and spears locked tight in defense.

“Archers, fire!”

As the demon infantry drew closer, General Gamb ordered the archers to fire.

The archers nocked their bows skyward and released a volley. A rain of arrows fell upon the advancing demons, but the enemy raised their shields, deflecting most of the projectiles. Still, a portion found their marks, and demon soldiers began to fall.

In retaliation, the demon forces returned fire, showering the allied forces with arrows. The defenders likewise raised their shields, but several soldiers collapsed under the barrage.

Unable to bear the sight of the wounded, Helen averted her eyes. As a healer, she longed to rush to their aid—but there was nothing she could do now.

Then, a mighty battle cry reached her right ear. Lifting her head, she turned to the right flank and saw the soldiers of the Hurion Kingdom and the Fulgus Empire beginning their advance.

Unlike the defensive stance of Heirent, these two great nations seemed intent on boldly charging forward to crush the enemy.

Armies bearing the banners of the sun and moon surged toward the dragon-flagged demon forces. The two sides clashed violently, locked in a fierce back-and-forth struggle.

The first to break the stalemate was the Hurion Kingdom. From behind the front lines, golden-armored cavalry pushed through their own ranks and charged. The moment they made contact with the demon infantry, the once-impenetrable formation shattered under a single blow.

The golden cavalry did not slow. Like a blade through paper, they carved straight through the demon ranks, effortlessly breaking their center.

“See that? That’s the Sun Knight Order of Hurion!”

“So that’s the legendary… they truly shine like the sun…”

Baines named the famed knightly order known across the continent. Helen could only gasp in awe.

The Sun Knight Order, said to be Hurion’s strongest, was a gathering of elites, each warrior worthy of being called a hero or champion. These radiant warriors, shining like stars in the heavens, moved as one—a celestial force upon the battlefield.

Inspired by the Sun Knights, Hurion’s entire army surged forward. Infantry rushed into the breach the cavalry had opened, driving the demons back.

Witnessing Hurion’s momentum, the Fulgus Empire’s forces, fighting beside them, rallied in turn.

From the gaps in their infantry, silver-armored cavalry advanced.

Seeing the Fulgus Empire’s movements, the Demon King’s army also deployed its cavalry units. It seemed like a clash between cavalry units was imminent, but the Fulgus Empire’s cavalry units drew their crystal swords, which emitted a pale blue glow, long before reaching the enemy. Despite being too far for the blades to reach, they swung their swords simultaneously

In the next instant, the blades flashed, and condensed light shot from their tips. Streaking like arrows, the beams pierced through the charging demon cavalry, toppling their steeds.

“What—what was that? Baines, is that magic? Such power!”

“Is this your first time seeing light magic? That’s the famed Moonlight Knight Order of Fulgus!”

Baines explained as Helen gaped in excitement.

“Those crystal swords are enchanted weapons capable of unleashing light magic. Among all spells, light magic is said to be the most difficult to master. Crafting those weapons requires several times the usual cost and time. But their activation is instantaneous, and their power can pierce even the sturdiest shields and armor.”

Helen nodded silently.

Under the Moonlight Knights’ assault, the front ranks of the demon cavalry were annihilated in an instant. Stumbling over fallen comrades, the demon forces lost cohesion. Seizing the moment, the knights raised their crystal swords and charged, mercilessly cutting down the disarrayed enemy.

“Disrupting enemy formations with magical volleys before a cavalry charge is the Moonlight Knights’ signature strategy. But only Fulgus could afford to deploy such valuable spellblades as frontline cavalry.”

Helen nodded again.

In most nations, magic-wielding soldiers were too precious to risk on the front lines. But Fulgus, rich in both resources and talent, could afford such extravagance.

Like unstoppable forces of nature, the Sun and Moonlight Knights tore through the demon defenses.

But then, a massive shadow loomed before the Sun Knights—a towering Spino, its sail-like spine casting a dark silhouette.

A beast said to equal a hundred knights in battle strength, the dragon let out a deafening roar that reached even Helen in the distance.

In response, a single knight clad in golden armor broke from the Sun Knight Order’s ranks. Charging alone toward the beast, his bravery was the stuff of legends—but it seemed sheer madness.

“No! He can’t fight a dragon alone!”

“Fear not! That’s Gildevaren, captain of the Sun Knights!”

Baines’ voice was firm even as Helen nearly shrieked.

Like a charging bull, Gildevaren raised his greatsword. The Spinosaurus’s demon rider leveled his spear to meet him.

Faced with the dragon’s gaping maw and the demon’s thrusting spear, Gildevaren swung his blade in a wide arc.

A single flash—as if the world itself had been split apart.

In Gildevaren’s wake, not only the Spinosaurus’s head but also the torso of its rider were severed clean through. The dragon’s colossal body crashed to the earth.
