A destroyed city.
Rubble was scattered everywhere, the devastation so severe not a single building stood intact. Amidst this, we were locked in a life-or-death battle.
[Alphaaaaaa!!]
A flesh monster over 50 meters long.
The flowing purple meat blob somehow retained the rough form of a living creature, but it held no sanity within that shape, becoming a disaster that simply brought destruction to its surroundings.
Its true identity was the Demon King [Omega].
Appearing suddenly in Japan about a year ago, it was the progenitor of the monsters that threatened humanity.
After countless battles with monsters, we were finally facing down the root of it all, this guy, amonster who created the monsters.
“You guys!! I’m gonna finish this off right here and now! “
I shout at the top of my lungs while checking the black combat suit covering me.
Answering my voice were three girls wearing colorful suits like superhero costumes.
“Yeah!”
“This is the moment of truth!”
“Let’s get fired up!”
Hearing the voices of Red, Yellow, and Blue in their vibrantly colored outfits, I make the first move to attack.
“Gwaaaah!!”
Omega grew eight tentacles from its whole body, forming large eyeballs on each tentacle’s tip which glare at us in unison.
“Ohhhh!! Alphaaaa!!!”
The eight eyeballs cloud over white, then immediately fire off beams of light, converging and raining down on us.
“Go to hell!!”
I obliterate every beam of light with my fist, then pound my bare fist into its undefended body, blasting it away.
As I knock over the colossal body beyond the height of buildings, it sweeps a tentacle at me like a whip, but before I can counterattack, the warrior in yellow armor crackling with electricity, Justice Yellow, severs the tentacle in two with his twin-bladed axe.
“I won’t let you hog the glory!”
“I’m here too.”
The blue energy bullets fired from the gun of the blue warrior, Justice Blue, blast through the tentacles trying to attack us.
And before Yellow and Blue, the red warrior, Justice Red, landed beside me, tightly gripping her reddened sword as she looks my way.
“I’ll fight together with you!”
“Don’t get in my way!!”
Though muffled by the mask, I can still feel the strength of will in her voice. I nod, then with our gazes matched on Omega’s immobilized face, Red and I charge forward to land the finishing blow.
“……Hn.”
As I concentrated my power, my field of vision flickered.
The damage from the previous battles had left my bones creaking, and my body screaming in pain.
“Now, do you think a little body pain can stop me now?!”
With sheer determination, I forced my body to move, raising my fist and slamming it into the monstrous creature before me.
Red’s sword and my fist struck simultaneously, piercing through its steel-like skin, gouging into its flesh, and aiming to take its life.
“Gaaaaaah!!”
“Hurry up and die already!!”
Omega’s wretched wail echoes.
Even hearing that, I continue swinging down my fist to end the life of this enemy of humanity.

In public I’m known as the [Black Knight].
A mysterious warrior in a full-black suit and mask who suddenly appeared to oppose the threat to humanity – monsters…that’s me.
Socially I’m seen as a criminal who stole a transforming suit secretly developed by a megacorporation, so no matter what I’m called or how I deny it, that perception won’t change.
In truth, I didn’t voluntarily steal the suit.
How I got this suit was a coincidence, no miracle or anything.
Just by happening to wander into some facility and touching the incomplete mechanical suit labeled [PROTO TYPE 0], for inexplicable reasons it equipped itself onto me automatically.
That’s how I ended up taking the suit from the mysterious research facility.
At first I was just running around the city wearing the suit.
Jumping from building to building, freely reveling without being seen.
No one could interfere or bother me – I was using my power solely for my own sake…so while I was acting as a villain, that didn’t last long.
[Gigiiii!!]
The appearance of the monsters, monsters in humanoid form.
Because of those guys showing up at night, my peaceful activities as a villain came to an end.
[Kuroshii!!]
[Kuroshishiine!!]
[Ningen Horobosu!!]
It was like they noticed me after I defeated the rampaging monsters, and more started appearing one after another to attack me.
Of course I wasn’t just going to sit back and take it, and I disposed of every one that I encountered, but the monsters kept endlessly appearing.
As a result, I was stuck fighting the excessively persistent monsters for over half a year.
Part of the reason was that there didn’t seem to be anyone else who could fight them, but the bigger reason was that I found the monsters looking down on humans offensively.
After half a year passed and defeating monsters became routine, the situation intensified again.
The monsters’ attacks became even more vicious, and the Demon King [Omega] who birthed monsters was revealed.
Also, to oppose the bizarre organization birthing dangerous monsters, the government formed its own bizarre organization.
“The blazing flame is the mark of courage! Justice Red!”
“The flowing water is the sign of miracles! Justice Blue!”
“The roaring thunder is the light of hope! Justice Yellow!”
“””Together as three! The three-color rangers! Prism Sentai Justice Crusaders!”””
Well, they’re the costumed hero, power rangers-like trio who make such an appearance with these embarrassing intro lines to even say out loud.
To be honest, when they did this pose right in front of me at first I was genuinely scared.
But considering the unstable society with the monsters’ appearance, I guess it was for appeal.
A lot of merchandise sold, they were featured in special news, and so on.
I thought there was no way I’d lose to jesters like them, but they were surprisingly strong.
Still, I had no intention of becoming their ally.
I’m a villain far removed from a champion of justice, and they’re bona fide heroes…
“Did I beat it…?”
Withdrawing my fist from Omega’s crushed head, no longer able to move, I look down on it.
“…………”
Its remains slowly turn to ash and disappear.
The same as all the monsters I’d defeated until now – vanishing without a trace of blood. After seeing the end once through, I turn around.
Behind me stood the temporary allies Justice Crusaders, heroes of justice who joined forces to defeat Omega.
“We did it, Black Knight!”
“There won’t be any more monsters now!”
“The victory of…friendship power!”
Unlike my black transforming suit, their suits split into the three colors red, yellow, and blue.
Donning well-designed suits with no waste that could be called finished products, they couldn’t hide their joy at the end of the long battle.
We fought together somehow or other, and early after first meeting I even saved their lives a few times.
I warned them to stop fighting because they might die.
But even so, they powered up enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with me, and now they’re here.
“Black Knight…kun?”
Justice Red speaks uncertainly as I don’t budge.
My suit’s pretty beat up, but I can still fight a little more.
If I can fight just a little more, that’ll be enough.
“With the demon monsters boss beaten, all that’s left is me.”
“Huh…?”
It won’t lead to peace with the monsters gone.
They reveal their agitation at me taking a fighting stance with my black armor-clad fist.
“Get ready. Justice Crusaders.”
“W-wait, that’s, the monsters are gone!?”
“Why!? We don’t need to fight anymore!”
“…!”
Justice Red in her red armor suit and mask lets out a hoarse voice. Justice Yellow in her clumsy Kansai dialect appeals emotionally.
Justice Blue, silent, seems shaken by the situation too, with the guns aimed this way trembling faintly.
“You know it. I’m not your ally.”
“But…”
“Don’t think this will end all friendly-like.”
Justice Red makes a pained voice.
Behind her, Blue steps up and places a hand on her shoulder.
“Red. Black Knight, he’s serious. He’s seriously trying to fight us.”
“Blue…”
“We’ve got no choice.”
At those words, Red and Yellow seem to steel themselves as they grip their weapons.
The reddened sword, the electrified axe, the dual guns emitting blue energy from their muzzles.
Their symbolic armaments are aimed my way. I too raise the fist that slaughtered dozens of monsters and grin.
“That’s it, Justice Crusaders.”
That makes you heroes of justice I acknowledge.
Of course, I don’t intend to fight half-heartedly either. I’ll fight them as worthy rivals, throwing everything I’ve got.
“Well then.”
I say voicelessly and charge forward.
Today I die here.
I can die defeated by the heroes of justice I recognize.
There’s no chance I’ll live.
Even if they try to keep me alive, I’ll die from the bomb I rigged in my suit.
“I was supposed…to die, but y’know.”
Recalling the decisive battle from a month ago, I laugh weakly.
I talked big, yet somehow survived normally.
“Hey hey, Katsu-kun~! Why the gloomy look~?”
“Your happiness will escape when you sigh~”
“Look over here~”
And the girls who call out to miserable me without reservation.
They’re smiling as they talk to me out of uniform but…do they really know where we are?
“Hey!! Don’t kick back and relax in an occupied cell!!”
I, the Black Knight, Katsumi Homura, was supposed to die but got caught by the Justice Crusaders I shouted.
Remembering it now makes me want to die of shame.
After all that big talk about dying, I just got normally beaten and captured…how’s that work?

But, why would he want to die? Is it just teenage edgy angst?
I’m not arguing his fighting against justice rangers but to go so far to strap bomb to yourself for suicide blast is a bit…
I mean okay, if its used against monsters I could sort of understand. Last move when you can’t fight no more, critically wounded, and want to take down enemies sure. But it sounded like he was perfectly willing to use it against Justice rangers. I don’t really see point of why here but whatever.
It’ll be explained later but edgy and angst are the most further away for our MC character traits
