Before the tutorial begins chapter 33

Chapter Thirty-Three –

Virtual Room – Stage – Level

Divine Revelations are exclusive items dropped upon defeating boss class enemies, which are spirits that place their main body in the dungeon rather than an avatar.

Though their forms vary across weapons, armor, and accessories, they undoubtedly possess game-changing power that transcends human wisdom.

After all, Divine Revelations are materialized remnants of boss spirits.

Of course, they wouldn’t be weak if they had inherited some of the abilities of the formidable enemies as proof of their conquest, and their high difficulty of acquisition further increases their value. Apparently, in these circles, possessing Divine Revelations is synonymous with being a top adventurer.

Without the general rule that they don’t fully function for illegitimate owners, who knows how many astronomical transactions and resulting disputes would have taken place.

God, who created this setting, deserves a “Good job!

Now then, I have a divine revelation here.

It is called .

It’s the accessory I obtained by subjugating the death mage, Shinigami.

It may look like a hideous skull, but the ability it inherited from him is Absolute Capture.

Yes, summoning those annoying cheating chains that tormented us so much.

“Do it, “

In response to my command, the surrounding space turned black.

The trauma-inducing chains instantly appeared from the four black holes that were created.

The crimson chains of resentment and malice that wrapped around Szilard-san’s entire floating body quickly neutralized the leader of the Five Great Clans.

Double capture by physical restraint and temporary full magical seal.

Although the duration of the binding is limited unlike the original, its absoluteness remains intact.

In addition to replicating the stealth effect upon activation, it’s flawless.

Against top rankers who see it for the first time when their guard is down, it goes like this.

I turn my gaze to the captured prey.

Szilard-san is lying face down, his entire body in chains, unable to even twitch a finger.

Yet, somehow, he wore a cheerful smile in this situation.

“Not going to finish me off?”

“I’m not falling for that. Szilard-san has resurrection-type abilities, right?”

More specifically, skills that forcibly convert physical damage into thermal energy for hasty repairs, but details don’t matter.

Just knowing that rash attacks will be healed is enough.

“So I’ll let the right person finish you off. Judging by your still missing arm, Haruka’s slash seems to have been effective.”

“I see.”

Sensing that I wouldn’t take his bait, Szilard-san nods contentedly and breathes out easily.

“Further resistance is pointless. Fine, I surrender. I admit defeat.”

Accompanying his declaration, rainbow text floats up in the virtual world.

Cheers erupt as celebratory fireworks explode.

It’s just VR effects, but being celebrated in such a big way still pumps me up.

MMy heart beats faster and faster with each passing second.

Did we win? Against that James Szilard?

I pinch my cheek to make sure I’m dreaming, but it doesn’t hurt much.

Oh, right, it’s virtual… no, wait, it’s not.

I silently reread the rainbow text floating in the sky to confirm if what happened in this virtual world was real.

Yes, that’s right. No matter how many times I read it, it doesn’t change.

The results screen says that we’re the winners.

“Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”

I shout from my belly at maximum volume.

We won. We damn well won! We did it!

“Kyoichiro!”

Haruka comes running over.

I can tell from her bright smile, which is like a cherry blossom in bloom, that the results of the match have reached her.

I run from Szilard-san, freed from his bonds, to my greatest companion.

Catching glances, sharing breaths, two hands outstretched at the same time, high-five in joy.

“We did it!”

“Yes! Our victory!”

We exchange spirited high-fives, then shout victory to the very limits of our avatar’s vocal cords..

“Puhahaha! You guys really beat me. I can’t complain about a complete defeat!”

Returning to reality from the virtual world, we were greeted by our opponent’s generous praise.

“First of all, Haruka. I was impressed by your sense and adaptability. Incomparable swordsmanship, excellent spell control, and most importantly, your evolution in battle by constantly improving yourself was extremely cool. I feel like I’ve met a true genius after a long time.

How about it? Won’t you join my clan and reach new heights together?”

“Nope nope, humbly declined!”

Immediate refusal. Bluntly.

Yet Szilard-san showed no disappointment at all, only a theatrical shrug while looking genuinely untroubled.

Turning to me next, he wore a dazzling smile.

“Well then, Kyoichiro, allow me to convince you. My honest impression of you after our fight was ‘a troublesome commander’. Your unique talents, your excellent tactical eye as you see through the entire battlefield… especially your judgment in critical moments and your handling of them was exquisite.”

“Oh, th-thank you very much!”

What do I do, I was showered with praise by Szilard-san! Extremely pleased!

“Commanders who can turn the tables in offense, defense, and support while thoroughly understanding the effective use of these skills and treating themselves as disposable pieces are rare. I’d love for you to showcase those talents in my clan, but how about it?”

My mind almost boiled over with more praise, but I quickly bowed my head and thought better of it.

“I am deeply honored by your praise, Szilard-san. However, I must regretfully decline your kind offer. Fully aware that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I humbly decline.”

“Puhahaha! So bluntly refused! But I like that spirit, too! A promising youth rising up on his own! How delightful!”

Szilard-san laughs heartily, extremely amused.

I can’t read his true intentions at all.

He seems to enjoy the rejection, and though he jokes around, his words carry weight.

He really is a mysterious man, Szilard-san.

However, one thing has become clear to me from our fight today.

The reason why Szilard-san called us must have been for the fight itself.

My basis for this belief lies in the way Szilard-san fought.

In the mock battle, he certainly overwhelmed us with a repertoire of powerful skills worthy of a clan master.

He showed no signs of having toned down his spells or conserving his spirit.

Undoubtedly, Szilard-san gave it his all at that moment.

…The question is his direction.

Take his opening move-even though he knew about my [4D Defense], he went with the focused [Rosso & Blu].

Take his CQC with Haruka-even though he knew it was disadvantageous, he still chose to cross swords with Haruka Aono.

I don’t want to be unnecessarily humble and diminish our victory by saying that he let us win or anything like that.

But the fact is that Szilard-san fought far too fairly.

More than fair, he deliberately challenged us to easy fights when we had the advantage.

Before the match, I told Haruka that our unknown hands were advantageous, but I was so wrong.

Szilard-san must have thoroughly investigated all available information about us.

Yet, despite all his efforts, he deliberately fought us on our own terms – probably because that was his goal.

A battle to observe rather than to win.

Hence fighting on the enemy’s home turf, hence not using any of his many divine revelations.

He put his reputation, his famous clan, and his powerful clansmen on the line, not to win, but to judge us through battle.

That’s why he’s so cheerful about losing the bet – the result itself was insignificant to him.

“…Oh, right, the wager’s reward!”

The wager, yes, the wager!

We won, Szilard lost.

Then the Blazing Iceblade Super Artilleryman joins our party…!

“Excuse me, Szilard-san, you remember the wager before the battle, right?”

“You speak quite differently normally than in battle, Kyoichiro. Yes, I find these little quirks charming as well.”

“S-sorry.”

“Huh? What? So Szilard-san swings like that too? And Kyoichiro, why are you fidgeting?”

“While I admit that I am a lover of many, let’s build up a better relationship before we pry into each other, eh, Lady?”

“Noooo sir!”

The carefree Haruka Aono and Szilard-san laughed pleasantly together.

But I noticed.

Haruka’s eyes were completely devoid of joy despite her seemingly casual smile.

“What’s wrong Kyoichiro?”

“It’s nothing. I know nothing.”

I saw nothing. Okay?

“Excuse me. Our conversation seems to have gotten off track. How terrible, conversations with you flow so easily.”

“That’s enough idle chatter, please continue Szilard-san.”

“Haha, I understand Lady. Of course, the bet still stands. I’ll notify them immediately and handle the paperwork to register the transfer, then send it to you.”

Good, it seems that the wager will be honored without any problems.

Though I wonder what Szilard-san plans to do if the artilleryman himself refuses?

Contrary to my fears, the transfer went off without a hitch.

After crossing swords with the Blazing Iceblade of the Clanmaster of the Five Great Clans, we received the long-awaited artilleryman.

And so…

“Nice to meet you… no, we’ve met before.”

And I met her again.

Silver twin tails, noir gothic dress, and her characteristic red eyes.

The one who appeared at the appointed time and meeting place at the Fountain Plaza was the girl I passed by in [Sakuragi] that day.

“About three weeks ago at the shop… remember?”

“Yes. I remember. You left an impression.”

I couldn’t forget even if I wanted to.

Because I know your future self.

[Of course, there will be difficulties, but I guarantee they’ll be at least equal to me in power and range]

Szilard-san’s words from that time suddenly appeared in my mind.

I see, well said.

Surely it makes sense for her to be compared to Szilard-san.

After all, she’s special.

Special origin.

Special spirit.

Special stats.

And most of all, special in her role in the original work.

“Let me introduce myself. Jupiter. Position: rear support, specialization: artilleryman… please treat me well”.

Jupiter. Her nickname in the dungeon RPG is “Black Lightning of Wrath”.

[Now scream and shout. Expose your shame for the pleasure of this Jupiter. This is the only atonement allowed to you worthless, useless worms. Kyahah, kyahahahahahaha, kyahahahahahahahahaha!]

Her role is a mid-boss who stands in the way of the protagonist party as a member of the [Organization] they oppose – the mid-boss of the Grand Route.
