“Norris and Raycis
“Finally, they’ve arrived.”
Raycis receives a report in his room that the members of the Baldia family have arrived at the guesthouse. And he feels a sense of urgency to protect his sister somehow. Raycis has only just started to be able to talk a little with his sister, Farah. This is because until recently, Raycis and Farah had hardly met each other.
Probably for some reason, they had been kept from meeting as much as possible. When Raycis first met his sister, he was astonished by her graceful manners and mature demeanor, which were beyond her age. And now, she’s a proud sister to Raycis.
He had wanted to meet his sister as soon as he knew she existed. And he had contacted Eltia, the princess’s mother, to ask to meet his sister. However, Eltia’s response was only that her education was busy and there was no time for the princess to meet. Despite that, he wanted to meet her, and he even made a direct plea to Eltia, but she responded with an emotionless expression and cold gaze.
“Prince Raycis, are you alright? There are roles for royalty. The princess has her role. And the prince has his. Right now, the princess is fulfilling her role. Therefore, there is no need for the prince. Please, cherish your own time, Prince Raycis.”
Eltia indirectly conveyed to Raycis that there was no need to meet. Why couldn’t he even meet his sister, his family? Raycis was shocked by Eltia’s words, trying to understand their true meaning. At that time, Norris, his confidant and great-grandfather, provided him with an answer.
“This is just between us. It may be because Lady Eltia doesn’t think highly of you, Prince Raycis.”
“Why?”
Smiling, Norris responded to Raycis’s question. While his smile contained malice, the young prince didn’t notice. Norris’s smiling face and demeanor were that of a kindly grandfather. And deliberately, he began to tell the prince things he shouldn’t tell a child, with ill intent.
It’s only Eltia whom King Elias, the prince’s father, loves. Therefore, both the king and Eltia don’t think highly of Queen Lisele, who is the mother of the prince and the queen. That’s why they probably don’t want the prince to meet his sister, the princess. Raycis immediately denied hearing that.
“That can’t be true! Father loves Mother. Certainly, Eltia might love her too. But Eltia would never treat her differently!”
“I understand your distress. However, this is the truth. Why does Queen Lisele occasionally have a deeply sad expression? Do you have any idea, Prince Raycis?”
“That can’t be true,” Raycis denied, but it’s true that, as Norris said, Queen Lisele sometimes had a deeply sad expression. However, when the prince spoke to her, she would quickly smile kindly. Therefore, he hadn’t thought much about it. But if what Norris said was true…? The more Raycis thought about it, the more confused he became.
Seeing the confused prince, Norris smiled wickedly, whispered gently in the prince’s ear.”
“When Lady Lisele was engulfed in deep sorrow, where would the king be going?”
“… “
Hearing his whisper, Raycis understood but didn’t want to acknowledge it, remaining silent with an unwillingness to admit.
“He’s with Lady Eltia. Unfortunately, His Majesty occasionally visits Lady Lisele, but he goes to Lady Eltia’s place every day. That’s just how it is. I believe a wise person like Prince Raycis would understand.”
Raycis bristled at his words. Was Father neglecting Mother? Did he love Eltia, a concubine, more than Mother, the queen? That couldn’t be true!! Raycis glared at Norris with eyes filled with anger and raised her voice.
“Norris!! I won’t tolerate such nonsense from you!!”
“Then, why not check for yourself? You could ask someone who knows His Majesty’s schedule… “
With a desire to believe, Raycis confirmed her father’s schedule. As he had said, it was clear that Elias visited Eltia far more often than Lisele. And indeed, on the days Lisele looked sad, Elias went to see Eltia. What he said was true. However, this revelation wounded Raycis deeply.
While Queen Lisele was being neglected and grieving, Elias didn’t seem to care and prioritized Eltia without hesitation or thought. Why was such a thing allowed? Raycis couldn’t understand. After agonizing over it, Raycis decided to consult him. Norris, with his kindly grandfather-like demeanor, listened to Raycis’s concerns with a smile.

“Lord Raycis… King Elias is an extremely capable king. Do you understand?”
“That’s… I do.”
As Norris said, Elias was highly regarded as a competent ruler within the country. Moreover, even from the perspective of his son Raycis, he was respected as both a ruler and a father. That’s why he couldn’t easily believe Norris’s words. However, when he realized that what he said was true, his feelings of respect turned to contempt. Unknowingly, Raycis had poured out his feelings to Norris.
“I see. You should continue to respect King Elias as a ruler. However, as a person, it’s a different matter.”
“Separating the ruler and the person… “
Upon hearing his words, Raycis lowered his head, lost in thought. Norris continued speaking, satisfied with his reaction.
“King Elias may be excellent as a ruler, but he may be immature as a person. However, that’s fine. No one is perfect. It’s okay for him to have immature aspects as a person as long as he fulfills his duties as a ruler.”
If he’s excellent as a ruler, then it’s permissible for him to be immature as a person. Would such a thing be allowed? However, it was true that Elias was fulfilling his duties as a ruler. Various thoughts raced through Raycis’s mind, and silence fell between them. Then, Raycis murmured slowly.
“As a king and as a person, how can one become an excellent human being…”
Raycis knew he would eventually become king. That’s why he respected Elias, his father, as the king. However, as a person, he couldn’t help but feel contempt for neglecting Queen Lisele. Because of this, Raycis began to distrust his father. Norris, who understood his feelings as if he could read his mind, offered a helping hand with a smile hiding malice behind it.
“If it’s not a bother… I could support Prince Raycis.”
“Norris…?”
Raycis stared at Norris with a puzzled expression.
“Yes. I’m one of the oldest here in this country. It means I’ve seen various personalities and relationships. If I can supplement what Prince Raycis lacks in experience, both as a king and as a person, we can surely become outstanding individuals.”
“I see… Indeed, Norris. Thank you. I’ll count on you from now on.”
“Yes. If it’s me, I’ll do whatever I can to assist you. Please consult me anytime if there’s anything.”
Upon hearing Raycis’s words, Norris replied politely after bowing. Raycis seemed relieved that his worries were resolved, showing a refreshed expression. Norris smiled as he watched him, unaware of the malice hidden behind his smile.
While worrying about his sister in his room, Raycis felt anxious and pondered alone. Then, there was a knock on the door. Upon answering, Norris entered.
“Norris, what’s wrong?”
“I’ve just met His Majesty Elias. The plan is proceeding without any issues.”
Upon hearing his words, Raycis’s expression brightened slightly.
“I see. Norris, thank you as always.”
“No, no. It’s just a small thing I can do. More importantly, Prince, I’ll rely on you on the day. Please don’t let your guard down…”
“I know even without being told.”
Raycis replied confidently. Seeing his expression, Norris smiled smugly with satisfaction. Then, he bowed and left the prince’s room. With his tasks settled and after talking with Norris, Raycis seemed a bit calmer. He took a deep breath and muttered to himself.
“I will definitely protect my sister…”
There was no hesitation in Raycis’s eyes, only the figure of a brother sincerely thinking about his sister.
After leaving Raycis’s room, Norris moved into the shadow of a corridor where he wouldn’t be easily noticed. Then, he made some hand signals. Suddenly, eyes and a mouth appeared floating in Norris’s shadow, revealing a eerie visage. While the face in the shadow remained expressionless, it stared at Norris with disdain. Ignoring the eyes, Norris addressed the shadow.
“How is the prince?”
“…Nothing particularly changed. He trusts you completely. There’s no doubt.”
The voice emanating from the shadow was cold and emotionless. Despite Norris’s authoritative tone, it seemed unaffected.
“I see. That’s good then. Let me know immediately if anything happens.”
“…Understood.”
As the shadow replied, the eerie visage floating in Norris’s shadow quietly disappeared. Eventually, the visage vanished, leaving only Norris and the shadow.
“Heh heh… Everything is going smoothly. Just watch. Magnolia’s country bumpkin.”
Norris muttered disdainfully before leaving the spot.
