I’m a D-Rank Adventurer Volume 3 Chapter 3 part 7

“Oh, uh…yes? What is it?”

Finally, a voice is heard. Good, I was wondering what to do if no one spoke.

Still looking down, Rafine mumbles.

“Why…couldn’t this boy find happiness?”

Her crossed arms tremble slightly, emotions visible.

After a moment’s thought, I reply.

“That’s wrong.”

“Huh?”

“He must have been happy.”

As I say this, I hold up the ceremonial sword I received from Henry.

The ornate decorations and the flawless red gem are unchanged. However, the blade now glows softly with white magical power, unlike the first time I saw it.

“The souls of the dead sometimes rarely possess weapons.”

Rafine tilts her head at the abrupt change of subject.

“Called ghost swords… Basically, when malice, obsession – the lingering attachments of the dead – inhabit a weapon, it becomes a cursed blade that harms the owner. But…”

Using this bizarre power, I forcefully peeled the souls of Henry and the demon apart. And succeeded in placing Henry’s soul in this sword. Achieving a miracle that should be impossible.

“This sword holds no evil. That is, no malice or obsession. He felt happiness.”

This time with his brother was precious to Henry and made him happy. Even with the unhappiness, he still considered it happiness.

“Besides, his happiness comes from here, right?”

“Huh? From here on…?”

Rafine seemed confused. Well, of course, since I didn’t explain it.

“Well, I can’t give details, but… I’ll think of something, let’s say.”

And leave it at that.

By the way, I didn’t tell Rafine and the others that Henry’s soul is in that sword.

I could, but that’s not something you tell people. Beyond the incomparable resurrection magic that the White Mage’s Association hides, the risks are high if it is known.

Faced with the vague me, Rafine doesn’t pry any further, just beaming “…Understood!” Showing more trust than you’d consider reasonable.

“It’s about time. Alright, end of the darkness! Let’s hurry and gather spirit grass so we can go home and sleep!”

With a positive voice, I start making preparations to quickly end this hassle and get back to the premium bed at home. I’m exhausted to be honest…

Perhaps spiced up, Rafine and the others respond cheerfully, “Let’s do it!” “Okay, got it.” “Yay! Home!” Letty is already getting ready to leave. No, not until after the harvest!

I smile wryly and check my watch, then cast a spell as insurance.

“White moon.”

At my command, a fist-sized white ball materializes from my hand, hovers over the lake and –

“Wow, incredible…!”

The ordinary grass growing thickly along the shore quickly sprouts buds when bathed in the White Moon’s glow, and soon blossoms into brilliant, radiant white flowers in full splendor.

The mystical white magical power reflects on the lake, gently illuminating the dark forest streams.

A captivating scene that leaves you speechless. Rafine and the others are also enchanted.

Just as the fairy information said. [When the white moon is full, its light produces Spirit Grass.]

The white moon refers to the fabled white moon, which is said to appear for a moment every few months at midnight. The grass that is transformed by its light temporarily becomes Spirit Grass.

That’s the true identity of Spirit Grass.

Today isn’t a white moon day. But by using magic to approximate the conditions, I’ve made it possible. It will probably be difficult to replicate this composite higher-order magic.

The red-haired boy couldn’t find one, of course, because the white moon had already passed by the time the boy and the knights were summoned. He was not summoned to guard the harvest, but to transport the captured demon. No chance to find one, no matter how hard he searched.

“Oops, now is not the time to stare. Hurry and collect it!”

We panic and quickly start harvesting. It reverts to normal grass if left untouched for several minutes.

“Alright! Might as well gather all we can when it’s ready!”

We cheer vigorously and get excited. This is money right in front of our eyes. No time for gawking. Hehe.

After that we collected a crazy amount of weed.

“Around 100 million maybe? We can buy anything!”

Arriving in town after the harvest, on the way to the guild.

I roughly counted about 100 stems, so probably 100 million. Insane.

“I worked hard, so I can splurge and buy some magic tools I wanted as a reward… right?”

Even after splitting with Rafine’s group, there would still be several tens of millions left. Then I mean… just a little should be enough, right? Right?

Thinking such things, we arrive at the guild.

Opening the door

“I’ve decided! I’m going to buy the things I wanted for 1000 million starting tomorrow-“

“I’ll pay it all back one day! So please, any clues about Spirit Grass-“

“As I said, the guild has no such information! Please submit it for evaluation.”

“Please! At this rate, my son will… Just a little more and I can afford the soul liquor, so…”

An elderly man argues at the reception. The receptionist sighs in exasperation.

Judging by her face, there seems to be no information at all. If there was, the guild would be raking it in.

A few minutes later, the man gives up with slumped shoulders and leaves the guild…I see.

“…”

Silently, I take the bag filled with Spirit Grass out of the Dimensional Storage.

Well, that sounds vaguely familiar, but it’s got nothing to do with me. Yes.

No relation, but…

“Ah…”

Well, how to put it.

“These grasses have a strange smell, and wearing them feels disgusting, even though the appraisal counter is right in front of me. I’m so sick of them, I want to throw them on someone. Hey, would you mind exchanging them for cash at my place?”

Hearing this, Rafine and the others’ eyes widen before they smile amusedly.

“Hehe… is that so? I actually thought I didn’t want to hold them either.”

“Me neither. I don’t want to.”

“Me neither! Smells disgusting!”

The same reaction from all three. Somehow looking happy for some reason.

“Is that right?”

Ahhh, well, how to say this.

“Haa…”

I let out a big sigh then –

-and headed for the guild entrance instead of the appraisal counter.

A few days later.

“Mmm…ahhhh…”

Waking up, I give a big yawn and stretch my arms far out.

“Mm, too sleepy…”

I try to get up, but I am too tired. I close my eyes again.

I’m about to drift back into a peaceful slumber, but…

“Oof!?”

A blow to the stomach. I see Letty’s snoozing figure.

“…”

I resist slapping her awake. Instead, I pick Letty up and place her in a nearby large bucket. I make sure to close the lid tightly and…there, perfect.

Feeling accomplished after completing a task, I look around.

Lots of straw down below. Horses neighing. Yes, a stable, no doubt.

Why we’re staying in a stable instead of a regular inn…in short, no money.

A few days ago, after we finished harvesting Spirit Grass, we decided to stay at an inn since it was late. As a hero group, we got a super fancy inn all to ourselves for free, but…

I bypassed the front desk. Stopped normally and charged full price. Couldn’t pay and got kicked out alone. I cried.

After that I tried to find an affordable inn, but everywhere was full, or rather I was out of money, so I ended up staying in this stable for 500 riel a night.

By the way, I threw the 100 stalks of Spirit Grass to an old man who was passing by. In addition, I spread the Spirit Grass conditions anonymously.

Soon, Spirit Grass prices should crash, and Soul Liqueur values should drop as well. They’ll probably be treated like slightly higher quality herbs and liqueurs.

Rumor has it that the info monopoly trading company is in chaos. Well, nothing to do with me. Tragic~ is how I feel.

Anyway, the problem is my lack of money.

I’ve been busy these past few days, so I couldn’t take on any jobs to earn, but rather lost what little I had to begin with from everything that’s going on. Why?

So my wallet is more than empty. More like negative from the quest violation penalty fee. Mood absolutely terrible. That’s why I’ve been staying in this stable for days. The innkeeper’s pitiful looks are getting worse every day.

“Well, honestly, anywhere is fine if I can sleep.”

I can sleep just fine, even with horses licking all over me.

So I don’t mind, but-

“Masssster Jireiiii…more hugs…”

“Yaaay…together forever, Shisho…”

“Ray…so cool. Love you…”

Three unique sleep talkers. I clutch my head. They’re hopeless.

Hygienically, I wonder about the girls. Letty and Eve can just stay at the inn. Rafine’s was practically hero too, so stay there!

But here they are. Not around when I sleep, but right next to me when I wake up. Why is that?

No matter how many times I tell them to stop, they don’t, and the door is open every morning even though I lock it. Scary.

On top of that, they’ve been following me around the last few days, no rest or peace. Well, they work properly, so that helps, but don’t follow me to the toilet!
