Mob Villain In An Otome Game Volume 2 Chapter 22 part 1

The Fury of Reed

After the match with Asna, I move to where my father is. The guards, Reubens and Diana, praise me, saying, “It was an excellent match.” Their words make me smile involuntarily. Father maintains his usual stern expression, but he speaks to me gently.

“You did well to keep up with that swordsman. As expected of my son.”

“Thank you very much.”

After speaking, Father places his hand on my head and ruffles my hair. I feel a bit embarrassed, but I’m very happy.

Afterward, during a short break, I pop a few of the mana recovery pills Sandra gave me into my mouth. Although they’re pills, I feel they taste bad, so I suck on a candy from Chris to ease the taste. Seeing this, Father calls out to me.

“…You said the next match is magic, but don’t overdo it, okay? You’ve already shown your skills sufficiently. Just shoot normally and finish it.”

“Yes. I don’t like showing off my magic too much, so that’s my plan.”

I nod in agreement with Father’s words. Sandra told me “the nail that sticks out gets hammered down,” so it’s probably best not to stand out any more than this. As I’m thinking this, I notice two Dark Elf girls approaching us. It’s Farah and Asna. I wonder what they want?

As they come closer, Farah looks a bit shy.

“Lord Reed. Um, would you like to try this?”

“Hm? What’s this?”

“It’s a common tea in Renalute. I thought you might like it…”

The tea she offers is green, and I recognize the scent. I unconsciously mutter:

“…Is this green tea?”

“Lord Reed, you know about green tea?”

“Oh? Ah, yes. I learned about it before coming here. Thank you, I’ll have some.”

I smile and accept the green tea. The slight bitterness and unique aroma of the tea are soothing. I can’t help but let out a soft “Ahh~” as my face relaxes. Everyone around me smiles, finding it cute.

As we’re all chatting, Elias calls out to me.

“Lord Reed, shall we begin soon?”

“Yes, understood.”

I answer and move to the center of the area where I just had the match with Asna. Looking around, I notice targets for magic that weren’t there before. So I need to hit those, I think. Just then, an unexpected person approaches me. It’s Noris.

The Imperial Palace, Prince Raycis, the match with Asna, and now magic – he really doesn’t give up. At this point, I’m almost impressed. However, I haven’t forgiven him for making Prince Raycis badmouth my mother. If I can repay him with magic, that might not be so bad. With these thoughts, I face him. His expression seems to be trembling with anger at seeing me, who has thwarted his plans so many times, right in front of him. However, Noris quickly hides his emotions and shows a smile.

“Since I suggested this, I asked His Majesty Elias for permission to observe Lord Reed’s magic up close. Is that alright with you?”

“…I understand. So, should I shoot magic at that target?”

“Yes, indeed. When I give the signal, please shoot a fireball or something similar.”

Noris seems to be plotting something, but he hasn’t said anything yet. Has he given up? At that moment, he looks at my face with a mixture of disgust and sighs.

“…I can’t understand why a child who looks so young has such ability. To think that I’ve been repeatedly thwarted by a child like you, it’s pathetic even to myself.”

“…What do you mean?”

In response to my question, he shakes his head slightly as if to say “good grief.” We’re currently far enough from the viewing area that our voices probably can’t be heard by everyone else. But isn’t he being too careless? I can’t help but show a puzzled expression, but he continues speaking without answering my question.

“Let me be frank. Would you withdraw from the marriage with Princess Farah? The princess is a trump card for Renalute’s advancement. Someone like you, the son of a mere frontier count, is not suitable. Well, you probably wouldn’t understand.”

“…Indeed, I don’t understand what you’re saying, so I can’t withdraw.”

After this brief exchange, I’m beginning to feel strong disgust and anger towards him. Farah is a trump card? She’s not a tool for your political maneuvering! Suppressing the urge to voice these thoughts, I respond. He then shows an exasperated face and starts explaining something I didn’t even ask for.

“Hmm. Then let me explain so that even a child like you can understand. Our Renalute and the Empire formed an alliance due to the Barst Incident that occurred a few years ago. However, I can’t give you the details, but this is by no means an equal alliance. The only way to resolve this inequality is to marry the princess to the imperial family.”

“…I don’t think anything will change just by marrying the princess to the imperial family. The nobles of the Empire are strong. With all due respect, given Princess Farah’s personality, it would be difficult for her to contend with them.”

Noris probably knows about the relationship between the Empire and Renalute, including their secret agreement. That’s why he’s trying to revive his country’s position even a little by marrying the princess to the imperial family… something like that, I guess. In response to my answer, Noris shows a grim face and spits out his words.

“Hmph. I’m well aware of that. What we need is the achievement of becoming an empress of the imperial family and time.”

“Are you planning to place Princess Farah as the empress dowager at the core of the Empire and control it from the inside, taking advantage of the Dark Elves’ longevity?”

“…Oh? I don’t dislike perceptive children like you.”

At my question, he shows a very unpleasant smile, his eyes filled with malice. At that moment, I understand, and a chill runs through my body from the disgust.

This guy, Noris, while claiming it’s for the country, is actually furious that his country has become a vassal state, hurting his pride. He’s trying to take revenge using Farah. He’s just a mass of malicious ego.

“…Are you really going to send the princess into such a hopeless den of demons just for such a purpose?”

“Such naive nonsense, you’re indeed a child even if you’re perceptive. The princess is royalty. She’s meant to serve the country. It’s only natural for her to risk her life to improve the unequal alliance between our country and the Empire. Besides, if things go well, she could reign at the core of the Empire as the empress dowager. Even more so if she has children. As a country, we can’t overlook such an opportunity.”

He doesn’t understand. It’s all just in his head. If the Empire were to accept a Dark Elf as an empress, they would surely consider the problems that would arise. Calmly thinking about it, it’s clear that sending Farah to the Empire won’t solve anything. It will only lead to a more cruel fate awaiting her in that den of demons. Unable to contain my anger any longer, I spit out my words.

“She… Princess Farah is not a tool for your political maneuvering…!! The future is created by children, not by old men like you. Someone like you, who treats children as expendable resources… how could you possibly create the future of Renalute?!”

“That’s why I say you’re a child. If you have no intention of withdrawing, we have our own plans, you know?”

He seems to have sensed my angry atmosphere and realized that I have no intention of withdrawing. Of course not. Who would listen to someone like him? I never thought I could feel such disgust and anger towards someone. This might be the first time I’ve directed such fury towards a person. However, he flashes a malicious grin at me.

“I have the dark side of this country behind me. Do you understand what that means?”

“…Are you saying you’ll assassinate me?”

“That’s one option, but you and Lord Reiner would be tough opponents. But what about your family?”

“Wha…?”
