Strongest in the Supernatural School Volume 2 Epilogue part 1

Epilogue

–Let me say this first.

if this were a story, what comes next would be like an afterword or appendix.

I won’t discuss anything important, and nothing particularly special is going to happen.

What occurs from here on out is simply the natural conclusion.

Just as an apple falls from a tree, or a person eventually dies,

the ordinary happens in an ordinary way.

It’s 7 PM, the appointed time.

The sports festival has closed, and the after-party has ended without incident.

The students have already returned to their dorms, likely waiting for the 8 PM curfew.

I’m quite tired myself and would really like to just go home…

but as I think this, I find myself stepping onto the sports field, where traces of the festival still linger.

In that moment, a tremendous sense of pressure pierces through me.

“…I’ve been waiting for you, Amamori.”

“Right on time, Dojima-senpai.”

The clock has just struck 7 PM.

So he’s been waiting here all this time, huh? There’s a faint scent of morning glory about him, but I don’t particularly feel like prying for details.

“Shall we begin, then?”

“Hell yeah! You have no idea how much I’ve been looking forward to this!”

Dojima cracks his knuckles and raises his voice.

I double-check the surroundings, but there’s no sign of anyone else’s presence.

Seems I don’t need to worry about being observed.

In that case, for the first time in a while, I might be able to fight him seriously.

Any further discussion is unnecessary.

Let’s just start and get this over with quickly.

“Alright, Dojima. …Try not to make this drag on, okay?”

From my arm–a black mist erupts.

Caught off guard by this power I hadn’t mentioned before, Dojima grows wary.

“You’re… a ‘Mist’ user, aren’t you!”

Precisely. All the abilities I’ve used up till now converge on this unique power.

While I prefer not to name my ability, I can control and manipulate mist.

I can cloak myself in mist, obscuring vision.

I can shape the mist, changing my form.

I can solidify the mist, creating illusions.

Of course, I can’t match the raw power of someone like Shinzaki or Kurotsuki.

But this power is strong in its own way.

“Crow.”

With a mere utterance,

Instantly, a swarm of crows emerges from the mist behind me.

“Wha–!”

“This ability allows me to summon specified creatures by the number of fingers I point.”

From one to five fingers, five types in total. Though the fifth is reserved for ‘human’, so I can effectively use four types. but I’m not going to go into the details there.

The murder of crows sweeps straight toward Dojima.

They are artificial creatures made purely of mist, devoid of true life.

But their appearance is meticulous. Touch them, and they feel undeniably lifelike.

Lifeless, yet uncannily real.

Normally, a person would hesitate to strike such creatures.

…Or so one would think.

“Hrah!”

With a foolish roar, Dojima’s fists start flying, annihilating the crows one by one.

His precision and ruthlessness are astounding.

It’s clear each strike carries tremendous power.

Dojima stands his ground, utterly demolishing every crow that approaches. They vanish as quickly as they appeared, until the entire swarm is wiped out.

All in less than a minute. …Strange, I’m sure I summoned around a hundred.

“Alright, what’s next?”

He even eagerly demands a continuation, as if enjoying himself.

Seriously, this guy. I know about his ability, but… this is just ridiculous.

Dojima Tadashi, Class 3-A. His ability is [Enhanced Eyesight].

Purely an enhancement of his visual acuity. Yet when mastered, it becomes a formidable power.

Telescopic vision without the need for binoculars, and reflexes sharp enough to track even Asahina’s movements.

The pinnacle of his ability is what he calls

“Basic Future Vision.”

“–So you know about my ability. Makes this easier, then!”

After fully mastering one power, he eventually gained the ability to perceive even the unseen.

I don’t know the full extent of his worldview, but I’ve heard one aspect is the ability to glimpse the “near future.”

Of course, it’s nowhere near the level of Hoshina’s power to determine the future. Dojima can only catch fleeting glimpses, and may even be mistaken at times.

But even so, I’ve never heard of him losing a fight since awakening his ability.

“I may have… taken my power a bit too far.”

That statement makes me flinch slightly.

“Taken it too far”, huh? Squinting, I see Dojima grinning rather enjoyably.

“Seeing the invisible can be a real pain. I’ve had my share of troubles, but… it’s been handy for gauging an opponent’s strength. When I saw the power of that Asahina girl, I was honestly floored. Her strength would likely put her among the top three in the school.”

But Dojima seems to have quickly changed his mind about something.

The reason is simple — he’s laid eyes on me, Amamori Yuto.

“But seeing you made me think differently. Though there is someone similar to you in Class A.”

He scrunches his face as he recalls that “similar” person.

“Let me be clear, I’m interested in you two. It’s puzzling that I can’t figure out your strength. Is there truly an unimaginable level of power in those eyes of yours? Or is there some other unseen reason? Either way, I can’t help but be curious about it!”

I see, it can’t be helped if you’ve become curious.

Well, your nonsense doesn’t really matter – you’re lucky, Doujima.

There are some women that you just shouldn’t mess with. That’s an important lesson.

Especially someone like that white-haired little girl who’s practically inhuman – you definitely don’t want to make an enemy of her.

Because if you do, you’ll get killed.

Even though I think that, I don’t say it out loud. I didn’t have any obligation to teach you.

“【Salmon】”

Two fingers. The summoned creature was a fish.

A black, murky stream overflows from around my feet.

Seeing that, Doujima’s vigilance immediately ramps up. It would be the perfect counter-move to give him.

I don’t particularly register strong animals or anything like that.

I just select things that I personally would dislike if I were the target.

Countless salmon swim up through the murky stream.

They head straight towards Doujima, causing his expression to twist.

“Targeting the feet of someone skilled in close combat? How spiteful!”

“Of course. I’m just doing to you what I wouldn’t want done to me.”

In close combat, the most important thing is your footing. Firmly rooted to the ground, attacks launched from a stable stance can even break through steel. This guy is a prime example of that.

That’s why I take away his footing.

The countless salmon rush towards his feet. They don’t have any real power on their own, but the river of mist that overflows with them, the slippery salmon bodies – they reduce the friction under his feet.

Just trying to step forward causes him to slide significantly. There’s no way he can attack the same way as before.

“Y-you! Your parents should have taught you not to do to others what you wouldn’t want done to yourself-“

“【Crows】”

Intending to silence him, an aerial support attack.

Unlike the previous diversions, I commit all the crows to a suicidal assault.

At an incredible speed, a massive flock of crows surpasses and attacks Doujima.

Sorry, but I didn’t receive that “privileged education” of yours.

For me, forcing on others what I wouldn’t want done to myself is the essence of combat.

“The ultimate conclusion is victory. Do you need any more than that?”

Feel free to argue against this conclusion as much as you want. But I absolutely won’t accept any objections.

Deciding who wins and who loses is the essence of a fight. And that inevitably leads to this answer.

“That’s right, Doujima Tadashi, the strongest in close combat.”

My words make Doujima grit his teeth.

But his gaze soon shifts away from me. He’s become more wary of the massive flock of crows.

The scale and speed are on a completely different level from before. My presence is overshadowed, and his focus deepens further.

His eyes widen.

Whatever future he saw, it made his expression twist.

“…Damn monsters.”

Doujima draws back his fist for a huge swing.

And for some reason, he directs that swing towards his own backside.

“Huh?”

I’m a bit surprised by the fist rushing towards me. Having teleported behind him, I counter his fist while going with the momentum to retreat backwards.

“So you could see it, huh?”

I stop the movement of the summoned creatures closing in on Doujima, and ask him.

If I pressed the attack, I could probably whittle down Doujima’s stamina. But both the crows and the salmon were just diversions.

Honestly, if he can respond to a sneak attack at this level, I doubt I could take him down with small tricks.

“…I couldn’t see it. I just saw myself getting knocked out by a surprise attack from behind. …Damn, this is no joke. Even I would get taken out by a single blow, and that’s with a sneak attack.”

Future sight… huh. He saw the future of being punched, yet that future hasn’t actually come to pass.

Likely, he’s seeing a modifiable world just a few seconds from now.

It’s more annoying that he can change this future that isn’t set in stone, rather than if it were a predetermined destiny. This is my first time fighting someone with future sight, and it’s proving to be a real pain.

“That was teleportation, wasn’t it? I don’t think that was your trump card either… You must have plenty of other tricks up your sleeve. The more I know, the more unfathomable you become.”

Well, of course I’m not showing everything I’ve got.
