Fantasy Galaxy Volume 1 Chapter 3 part 3

I am Sario Barakel, born on Zilta, the fourth planet of the Korad star system, which has a civilization level of E. I grew up in an ordinary family and, as a member of the Kushi race, dreamed of becoming a spaceship pilot someday. Unfortunately, the spaceship I was on was attacked by space pirates, and I was captured. Since I wasn’t from a wealthy family, I was sold in the lower-class market and bought by the Goblin army. From then on, I was worked to the bone by the Goblins. However, I met a man from Earth named Zen and managed to escape the Goblins. To return to my home planet, Korad, I needed either a massive amount of money or a long-distance FTL (faster-than-light) spaceship.

Zen and I managed to acquire a small spaceship, but due to its limited capabilities, it couldn’t take us all the way to Korad. So, we decided to start an interplanetary transport business to save up money and eventually return to Korad. While preparing to start this business, I came across some news. I was in a room at Guest Tower, using smart glasses to fill out the application for the transport business, when I saw the word “Korad.” The news was about a war breaking out on Korad.

“What’s going on?”

I searched for more information and found out that Korad and the Goblin Empire of Gonuva had gone to war. What about Planet Zilta? Is my family safe? I dug deeper but couldn’t find any information about what had happened to my home planet, Zilta. My heart raced, and I couldn’t sit still. I started pacing back and forth in the room. I felt an overwhelming urge to return to Korad immediately.

“What should I do?”

Traveling the 270 light-years to Korad would cost around 200 million Krebits. I didn’t have that kind of money, so the only option was to sell something to fund the trip. The only thing I could sell was the small spaceship, but it belonged to Zen as well. I thought about selling my knowledge, but I realized it would be difficult. The planets with markets for such knowledge were far away. That left selling the spaceship as the only option. As my thoughts were spinning, Zen returned.

Zen noticed something was off when he saw my face.

“Sario, did something happen?”

I told Zen about what was happening on Korad.

“Do you want to go back to Korad?”

“I do, but I don’t have the funds. It’ll cost around 200 million Krebits.”

Zen thought for a moment and then made a suggestion.

“Let’s sell the small spaceship.”

“Are you sure? If we sell it, we might never get another one.”

“It’s not the spaceship itself that’s hard to replace—it’s the Time-Space Jump Field Generator and the Luon Drive. We can just remove those and sell the ship.”

That made sense. The small spaceship was an interplanetary vessel built by the Anubis race, with a civilization level of C. It was the kind of ship you could buy for a few billion Krebits. I immediately put the spaceship up for sale. The Time-Space Jump Field Generator and the Luon Drive, along with a maintenance robot, were stored in a rented warehouse. The spaceship was sold in a rush and fetched around one billion Krebits. I tried to give half of the money to Zen, but he refused.

“After you go to Korad, you’ll need to find your family and help them evacuate. And if you plan to come back here, you’ll need a lot of money. I’ll stay here and earn money, so you can use all of that for yourself.”

Hearing that, I almost cried.

“Thank you.”

“Don’t mention it. Just remember, I’m holding onto the Time-Space Jump Field Generator and the Luon Drive for you. Those are far more valuable than the small spaceship. Make sure you come back.”

I left Zen and began my journey to Korad. Of course, there were no direct ships to Korad, so I had to transfer between multiple vessels.

After five months, I arrived at the outer edge of the Talitar star system, just one step away from Korad. From there, it took time to reach Rodar, the second planet of Talitar, where I landed at the Farau Spaceport. I had heard that many Kushi refugees had fled to Rodar, so I decided to gather information there.

Rodar is a planet ruled by the Karshi race. The Karshi are a race that split off from the Kushi thousands of years ago. They look the same as the Kushi and have the same civilization level. Near the spaceport, I learned that refugees from Planet Zilta were living on Dahlia Island in Rodar. So, I headed to Dahlia Island.

It seemed the Talitar government wasn’t keen on accepting a large number of refugees. However, since marriages between Kushi and Karshi aren’t uncommon, there were Kushi living on Rodar who had petitioned the government to accept the refugees. As a result, the undeveloped and uninhabited Dahlia Island was temporarily opened as a settlement for the refugees. The Kushi were expected to develop the island and make it livable on their own.

The Kushi had fled the war with little to no funds, so they were barely able to establish the basic infrastructure needed for survival. Living on a small island with around ten million Kushi was no easy task. Upon arriving at Dahlia Island, I began searching for my family. My family consists of my parents, my older brother, and my younger sister—five of us in total. The island was filled with countless temporary shelters, where Kushi families lived. I searched for my family’s names on the planetary information network but found nothing. So, I went to a makeshift government office on the island to ask if there was any way to check on my family’s safety. A male staff member assisted me.

“You’re from the Barakel family of the Orizala Province, correct? We have a separate list, so I’ll search for you. …Got it. It seems that Sonya is here on Dahlia Island.”

I showed my ID to prove I was her brother and was given Sonya’s address. When I arrived at the address, I saw a familiar girl walking toward me, looking exhausted.

“Sonya.”

The girl tilted her head as she looked at me.

“It’s me. Sario.”

Sonya’s eyes widened, and she ran toward me, throwing herself into my arms and bursting into tears. Even though several years had passed since I disappeared, Sonya still remembered me.

“Big Brother Sario…”

After she calmed down, I asked her about what had happened. When the war started, Sonya had been at school. As the Goblins attacked Planet Zilta, the school evacuated the students to the spaceport and sent them to Rodar. As a result, Sonya was separated from the rest of the family, but at least she survived. The area where our parents and older brother lived was destroyed in the Goblins’ initial assault. They were probably dead. Hatred for the Goblins welled up inside me.

“Big Brother Sario, what are we going to do now?”

Sonya had been living in something like an orphanage. It was a temporary facility for children whose families hadn’t been found yet, and they had to leave once their families were located. After thinking it over, I decided to return to Chiratia for now. I wanted to discuss things with Zen before making any decisions.

“Let’s go to Chiratia together. I have friends there.”
