Female Soldier Infiltration Volume 3 Chapter 3 part 3

Aside from when Raze fell ill after a study session in their first year, Carne had never seen her napping during class or taking an afternoon siesta.

“For Raze to be running late… Oh! I wonder if she even had lunch?”

If she was late enough to delay meeting up, perhaps she hadn’t eaten yet.

Hearing Carne’s realization, Claude spoke up.

“I saw her eat a light meal at the food stall earlier, so there should be no issue.”

Carne was surprised again by his response.

The Claude from the game tended to be quite stern towards Ruben regarding anything. She had thought he would coldly scold Raze as well for being tardy, as that seemed to fit his cool character type. But apparently not.

“I see… As attentive as ever, Claude.”

She looked at Claude’s jacket draped over Raze’s lap.

The comfortable silence in the carriage was due to a spell he had cast. It was a small gesture of respect towards her, someone unknown to him but working just as hard.

After a while of riding in the carriage, the scenery changed to a path shaded by blue trees and foliage.

“–We’re almost there.”

Peering out the back window, Ruben announced their impending arrival.

“Then I’ll wake her up!”

Ian reached towards the soundly sleeping Raze next to him.

“Granoli. We’re almost there.”

“–Wah!?”

As he shook her shoulder, Raze startled awake with a face like she had seen a ghost. The sudden jolt caused Claude’s jacket to slide off her lap.

In her usual habitual attempt to create distance, she tried to back away in the confined space, bumping against the wall. Halfway through entering a combat stance, she realized where she was.

“Eh, ah……”

She had reflexively grabbed Ian’s hand that was on her shoulder.

“…Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you!”

Ian looked just as surprised at Raze’s reaction of bolting upright. Seeing his expression, Raze let out a short “Ha!” before releasing his wrist.

An indescribable tension hung in the air inside the carriage for a brief moment.

In that few seconds, the person present was Raze-Shes-Orphan.

“N-No, my apologies. I was still waking up. Ahaha…..”

Wiping some cold sweat, she picked up the fallen jacket.

“..is this…?”

“It’s mine.”

Hearing Claude’s words, Raze felt relieved in her heart.

Claude may be a son of a noble lord, but due to his occupation, he is an approachable person even to commoners in this place.

(I don’t think it’s certain, but just imagining if I had dropped the young master’s clothes…it makes me shudder.)

She easily cast a wind magic spell, shook off the dust from her clothes, and handed them to Claude.

“I’m sorry I dropped them. Thank you.”

“No problem.”

She had been indebted to him repeatedly since earlier.

Today was full of failures, an endless cycle of apologies and thanks. She couldn’t help but worry about the future.

Raze looked around and spotted the Emerald Palace.

“That’s…”

“Yes, the Emerald Palace.”

For the next three days, she, a commoner, would be living in that place.

She was delighted to be with Carne and Folia, but the more she thought about it, the more daunting it seemed.

Only now realizing the fact that she wwould be staying with Ruben, Raze didn’t know what face to put on at the palace.

“We’ve been waiting for you.”

Upon arrival, a butler clad in a crisp tailcoat greeted them politely.

One would want to ask if such an outfit doesn’t make them hot even in summer, but in this world where magic exists, there’s no need to worry about that.

(Well, from the perspective of the observer, it does look hot, though.)

Raze got off the carriage and followed behind them.

“What a beautiful palace…”

It was Raze’s first time at the Emerald Palace.

A sigh of admiration escaped her at the fairytale-like world.

The Emerald Palace, famous as a summer retreat and standing on a mountain, was built by an emperor three generations ago for his beloved wife.

With its vertically elongated architecture designed to allow stargazing at night, the palace was luxurious yet exuded an elegant beauty.

The fact that she had come here to prepare for the school festival seemed like a dream.

If Folia were here, she would have exclaimed, “Wow, amazing!” But without her, it was a pity.

“What? Are you nervous?”

It was Addis who spoke to the quiet Raze.

“Well…a little. I’m a commoner, after all.”

“Huh. But there’s only us here, so you don’t need to be so tense, do you?”

Usually avoiding him, Raze was touched that even a womanizer could be helpful at times like this.

“Thank you.”

“No need. I’m just stating facts.”

Unusually thanked, he simply responded.

“I heard you were working this morning too. What do you do?”

“Mainly cleaning up (monsters). Ah, I also do (in a way) cooking. Sometimes (research-related) office work.”

“Oh, so you do all sorts of things. Is that why you look so beat?”

“Eh?”

She was startled that he had noticed, despite carefully covering it up with makeup.

“How did you…”

“Your makeup is thicker than usual.”

“…You’re quite observant, aren’t you?”

“Well, I do get along with the ladies.”

Raze’s eyes narrowed.

Addis didn’t miss that.

–No doubt she’s grumbling in her heart, “This guy again…”

Addis had also noticed that Raze’s body had slimmed down a bit, but he chose not to mention it.

They were shown to their rooms inside the palace.

Each had their own room, and even the commoner Raze was given a splendid room.

As expected, Carne’s room was next to Ruben’s.

Afterward, they gathered in the guest room to have tea and snacks to refresh themselves from the journey.

(How elegant!)

Such an unimaginable event for military life like taking a break for travel made Raze inwardly surprised, but her appetite was piqued by the sight of the snacks.

“It seems your friends have arrived as well.”

After a while, Folia peeked into the guest room, and Raze smiled with relief at her energetic appearance.

“Raze-chan! Have you been well!?”

Hugged by her, Raze nodded as Folia asked the same question as Carne.

The angel was an angel today as well, and sacred.

“Ah, that’s right. This is from Lord Zell for you, Raze-chan.”

“For me? I wonder what it is.”

Folia handed Raze a paper bag containing something.

She couldn’t think of any reason he would give her anything

Suspiciously checking inside, she saw a letter.

Opening it, she read the words [I’m leaving Folia in your care. Use this if needed].

Apprehensively looking inside the bag, she found what seemed to be a tun gun-like device that would shock the target with electricity upon touch and activation of the magic.

“Whoa.”

Her cheeks twitched involuntarily.

Just who was she supposed to use this on? The very thought was terrifying.

Raze immediately transferred the bag to her room.

“What was it? Lord Zell wouldn’t tell me.”

“…Snacks.”

“I see!”

“………”

Raze’s heart ached a little that Folia didn’t suspect anything at all.

“Now that everyone’s here, let’s get down to business.”

They moved from the guest room to what seemed to be a large hall prepared for this gathering, with spaces for discussion and work.

“Palaces are amazing! It’s like a fairytale world.”

“I thought so too.”

“Right?”

Agreeing with Folia, she smiled happily.

(Ah, this is it. This…)

Getting the reaction she had sought, Raze felt very reassured.

As the bearer of the “wolf fang” title, Raze had been to the royal castle before, but as a commoner from her previous life, she couldn’t help but feel dizzy at the nobility’s sophistication.

“Now that you’re all here, shall we begin?”

Seeing everyone seated, Carne, the committee chair, began to preside.

“Yes!”

Folia responded energetically.

The overall theme for the first centrior Academy Festival was “Milky Way.”

This theme, proposed by Carne, embodied the wish for each individual to shine and perform like the stars.

The events would be organized by class, using the classrooms as venues. The executive committee was tasked with decorating the hallways and stairs in line with this theme. Raze would return to her military duties after these three days, but the other committee members would continue the preparations.

With wealth and magic available, it wasn’t expected to take much time to complete.

At this gathering, they would prepare for the event to be held on the final night of the academy festival.

First, they would present the event ideas they had each brought.

Carne, with her memories from her previous life, suggested a campfire, as that was a typical after-party event.

The others proposed various party-like events, though the specifics differed.

“What about you, Raze?”

Finally, it was Raze’s turn.

Despite the hectic days of hunting, research, and development, Raze had of course prepared an idea for this day.

“My proposal is a Candle Night.”
