Raina’s Return Home and the Skill She Wants
(Raina’s Perspective)
“Ehhh!? You slept together!?”
“…Yep.”
“And you didn’t do anything!?”
“……Yep…… I mean, we just slept normally. Isn’t that how it should be, Ulrika-senpai?”
“No, it’s not how it should be… That kind of situation usually leads to—”
After finishing the hunt with Mongrel-senpai, I returned to Legol.
Our haul consisted of meat and feathers. Since we also bagged a few more on the way back the next day, the results weren’t bad.
Well, Mongrel-senpai didn’t manage to take down a single one, though… He needs more practice.
“Ulrika-senpai, it’s not like that between me and Mongrel-senpai…”
“……Most men would’ve taken advantage, you know?”
“But you wouldn’t do that, Ulrika-senpai, right?”
“I’m… well, a little different. But Raina, don’t assume all men are like Mongrel-san, okay? You can’t go hunting alone with just any other guy!”
“Uh, yeah. I don’t plan to, but…”
When I got back to the Artemis clan house, Jona-san cooked the meat for us. Since we didn’t have enough to sell to any shops, we decided to eat it ourselves.
Mongrel-senpai, on the other hand, took home a lot of crater toads—the ones he personally hunted. Even though we went together, we each kept our own kills. It felt kinda weird.
“Nastasha-san prepared a bath, so go ahead and use it first!”
“Okay! Oh, Ulrika-senpai, do you need puffbird feathers? I know you collect these, right?”
“Huh? Really? Yeah, I’d love them! Thanks, Raina! I’m making cushions for the carriage rides, and with this many, I’m about 80% done! You’re a lifesaver! I’ll pay you back later!”
“Ehehe.”
The clan house is clean, smells nice, and everyone’s so kind… It’s really comfortable here.
But I don’t want to be just another deadweight guild member.
I want to improve my archery skills, become strong enough to support everyone… Am I getting ahead of myself?
But I feel like Mongrel-senpai would still cheer me on, even as I am now.
Someday, I’ll become a proper guild member.
I’ll hone my archery, grow stronger… and maybe get a little taller, with a chest like Milène-san’s…
“That washboard thing is great, isn’t it? Simple but so effective. Even ground-in dirt washes right off.”
“You think so too, Jona-san? It was such a good purchase. Ulrika picked it up somewhere.”
“Oh, the zigzag one? Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of inns using them outside.”
“Yeah, I spotted it at the market and grabbed it. Since more general stores are starting to sell them, prices might drop soon. Glad I got mine early!”
“Worth the extra cost for something this handy. Thanks, Ulrika.”
“Ahaha, you’re praising me~”

Dinner was a group affair.
The porridge had meat from the puffbirds I hunted—it was so good.
A meat-heavy meal is luxurious, but it doesn’t feel like a proper meal without porridge, right?
“Raina, how was the night camp? Any monsters?”
“All safe, Nastasha-san. We burned incense, and Mongrel-senpai secured the perimeter really well.”
He’d hammered long branches as stakes around the small tent, and the campfire (or was it a wood stove?) stayed lit much longer than I expected, keeping the area dimly lit all night.
Actually, I think Mongrel-senpai must’ve woken up now and then to add more wood…
“But with just two people, it’d be scary if something did happen…”
“True. Whether it’s people or monsters, you’d want at least four for night raids. Setting up camp also takes hands.”
“Two is rough. Back when I was younger, I tried it a few times—could barely sleep from fear!”
So it is that bad… I only managed to sleep because Mongrel-senpai was there.
With anyone else, I wouldn’t have felt nearly as safe…
“Raina’s already handling small-group night camps…? My, how you’ve grown~ I’m so happy.”
“I am grown.”
“I know, I know… Hey, Captain Sheena, I’ve been waiting for Raina to learn one more skill, but… isn’t it about time she took the Silver Rank test?”
“…Raina’s promotion, huh?”
“Wait, already?”
“She’s got the skill and knowledge to surpass most Silver 1s. No reason to hold her back, I’d say.”
Silver 1… a rank above Mongrel-senpai…
…Well, no, that’s just because he’s weird.
Still… I wish he could get promoted with me.
But if I make Silver, my pay will go up, I’ll get better jobs, and most importantly—I can hunt stronger monsters!
As a guild member, there’s no reason to refuse this!
“I’ll do my best!”
“No, not yet.”
“Huhhh!? Why noooot!?”
“C’mon, Captain, Raina’s a better shot than me!”
“One more skill. That’s non-negotiable. No matter how good your aim is, [Starlight Aim] alone isn’t enough for an archer. You need trajectory or heavy-shot skills for proper coordination.”
“Ugh… You’re right, Sheena-senpai…”
It’s true—with my current skills, I can’t take down big prey alone. I only manage with teamwork.
Even that ogre I bagged before? Only possible because everyone else had its attention.
“…I want skills like Ulrika-senpai’s Weakness Detection or Power Shot next.”
“Those are handy. I’d have loved those two myself.”
“Ahaha. They’re useful, sure… but arrows drain fast.”
Ulrika-senpai has both a skill to visualize weak points and one to boost arrow power. Thanks to that, she never hesitates on where to shoot, and even at close range, she can knock enemies back.
Mine’s kinda plain in comparison…
“But Raina’s more of a precision type… Doubt she’d get the same skills as me.”
“Waaah…”
“Giggle. Skills reflect your personality and experience, after all. Maybe Raina will get trajectory-based ones?”
“…I wanna get a skill soon and make Silver. Preferably something really useful…”
Trajectory skills—stuff like stabilizing shots or extending range.
Not bad… but I’d rather take down big game too…
It’s about time for a new skill to come out, but… maybe around summer or fall?
Exciting… and kinda scary.
