Fantasy Galaxy Volume 1 Chapter 4 part 4

When I returned to Elevator City, I parted ways with Aaron and the others and headed to a hospital that offers life extension treatments. It was a general hospital run by the Dragon Hunter Guild.

“What kind of service are you looking for?”

The hospital’s reception robot asked. The robot was a Werecat model, with cat ears on its head as a charm point.

“I want to undergo a life extension treatment.”

“There are several options for life extension treatments, so please consult with the assigned doctor.”

I was guided to a room where the doctor was waiting. After walking down a clean hallway, I entered the room and was greeted by a Werecat doctor, a resident of this planet.

“Let me explain the life extension treatment.”

According to the doctor, there are several methods for life extension. The two main ones are genetic modification and the implantation of life-extending nanomachines. Genetic modification has the advantage of extending the lifespan of your descendants as well. However, the downside is that altering genes can sometimes have side effects. If the effects are undesirable, they can be treated, so it’s not a major issue.

The other method is to implant life-extending nanomachines into the body. These nanomachines halt aging and protect the body from injuries and illnesses. However, halting aging doesn’t mean it’s eternal—there’s a limit of about 500 years. Genetic modification extends human lifespan to 300 years, while nanomachines extend it to 500 years. Although nanomachines seem better, they’re about five times more expensive. After some hesitation, I chose genetic modification. At my age, I don’t plan on having children, and the fivefold price difference was the deciding factor.

“One question—does this genetic modification affect Bosol Resonance or my abilities as a mage?”

“The likelihood of it affecting them is extremely low. If it does, it’s about one in ten thousand.”

“Understood. I’ll go with genetic modification.”

“Then, there are several options.”

Summarizing those options, there were about twenty choices, such as [Brain Memory Installation], [Muscle Enhancement], [Hair Growth], [Health Monitor], [Automatic Muscle Maintenance Function], and so on. The prices ranged from 50,000 Krebits to 100 million Krebits.

I received detailed explanations for four of them: [Brain Memory Installation], [Muscle Enhancement], [Health Monitor], and [Automatic Muscle Maintenance Function]. [Brain Memory Installation] involved using nanotechnology to install a high-capacity organic memory chip in a part of the brain. It would integrate with the brain cells, and once I learned how to use the brain system, I could read and record information from the organic memory chip. However, it also required a communication device to access external information systems. [Muscle Enhancement] was exactly what it sounded like—transforming the body into one with strong and resilient muscles. [Health Monitor] involved implanting a health management device inside the body, which could even perform detailed bacterial tests. Lastly, [Automatic Muscle Maintenance Function] was a feature that forcibly maintained muscle mass, which would otherwise deteriorate without regular exercise.

After some thought, I decided to add two options: [Brain Memory Installation] and [Automatic Muscle Maintenance Function]. I hesitated about [Muscle Enhancement], but ultimately dismissed it, thinking it wouldn’t be necessary for living as a mage. I was also interested in [Health Monitor], but it cost 90 million Krebits, so I gave up on that.

“If you undergo the life extension treatment, you will slowly rejuvenate. You might feel some discomfort, but there’s no need to worry.”

“Doctor, how much younger will I become?”

“Since you’re in your late fifties, you’ll likely return to about twenty years old.”

With my lifespan extended to around three hundred years, I would rejuvenate proportionally. While I felt happy about it, the phrase “looking younger” popped into my head. Even if my appearance became younger, my thoughts would remain the same.

“However, it’s possible that your mental state might also rejuvenate due to the physical changes.”

“What should I do in that case?”

The doctor smiled.

“There’s no need to worry. Your lifespan will be extended by about three times. Since you’re actually getting younger, just enjoy the longer life.”

After that, I underwent a thorough examination and was taken to the treatment room. Since the examination was done at the genetic level, the treatment would be performed by medical robots based on the results. I was placed inside a large capsule filled with some liquid and quickly lost consciousness. The treatment lasted about three days. When I woke up, I was lying on a hospital bed.

“You’re awake. I’ll call the doctor.”

The nurse robot called the doctor. About five minutes later, a Werecat doctor appeared and informed me that the life extension treatment had been successfully completed. I looked in the mirror, but my appearance didn’t seem to have changed much. However, my complexion looked better. There was also a small earring on my left earlobe, which was the communication device connected to the memory chip in my brain. The most noticeable difference was the switch I felt in my mind. When I focused on it and turned it on, a monitor appeared in my head.

“Whoa!”

The doctor gave me a strange look.

“Is something wrong?”

“When I turned on the switch in my head, a monitor-like thing appeared.”

“Ah, the brain system has activated. There’s a manual inside it, so study how to use it.”

The doctor only taught me the basics. In addition to the brain system manual, there was also a file titled [Life Extension Treatment Explanation], which detailed what would happen after the treatment. Finally, there was a check-up, and I was discharged from the hospital with a clean bill of health. I returned to my room in the guest tower and read the manuals and instructions provided by the hospital. The text was displayed on the monitor in my mind, and instead of reading with my eyes, the information naturally entered my head as I focused on it.

It felt like I could read five times faster than usual. By the way, the information engraved in my soul by Zorofiene and the files in the brain memory were completely separate. If I were to suffer brain damage in an accident, the files in the brain memory might be lost, but the information engraved in my spirit cloud—my soul—would remain until my death. This was also true in cases of dementia or similar illnesses. If I could copy the memories in my brain to the spirit cloud’s memory domain, it would be the first step toward immortality.

There were other changes besides the brain system. My body became less prone to fatigue, and I felt a surge of vitality throughout my entire being.

After completing the life extension treatment, I recalled what Regina and the others had said about the three basic techniques being equivalent to fifth-level magic. To achieve that, I needed to be able to use the three basic techniques with normal power.

“I didn’t think I’d have to deliberately use weaker basic techniques.”

I adjusted the speed and the amount of celestial power in the three basic techniques, reducing their power to match the basic techniques that Paula used. I decided to add the prefix “[Petit]” to these downgraded versions. For example, [Particle Shot] became [Petit Particle Shot].

While working on these Petit basic techniques, an idea struck me: could I really elevate the basic techniques to fifth-level magic? To check whether my idea was new or something that had existed before, I searched the internet. It seemed that the idea of enhancing basic techniques did exist, but nothing exactly like my idea.

I took my hoverbike to the Sisuca Grasslands and headed toward the rocky mountains in the southwest. While 90% of the Sisuca Grasslands were flat plains, there was an area in the deep southwest where rocky mountains stretched out. I had heard that some mages practiced tactical magic techniques there, using the rocky mountains as targets. I decided to test my new fifth-level magic techniques on the rocky mountains as well. The idea was to make the projectiles formed from Bosol particles much more durable. Currently, if I increased the speed too much, the projectiles couldn’t withstand the acceleration and would explode, so I had to deliberately limit their speed.

The way to increase the projectile’s durability was to apply particle armor. By using celestial power as a connector and bonding the Bosol particles in a specific pattern, they became much stronger. With this method, the particle bullets could be accelerated to five times the speed of sound without exploding mid-flight. When I tested the limits of [Particle Shot], it exploded at seven times the speed of sound. The limit in the atmosphere seemed to be six times the speed of sound.

I decided to add the prefix “[Enhanced]” to the new basic techniques. When I fired the Enhanced Particle Bullet at the rocky mountain, it tore through the air with a loud roar, hit the target, and caused a massive explosion. The rocks shattered spectacularly, leaving a crater about six meters in diameter on the rock face. It seemed to be about three times more powerful than the original [Particle Shot]. I applied the same method to enhance [Particle Shot – Piercing Bullet] and [Particle Shot – Circular Wing Blade]. [Particle Shot – Piercing Bullet] reached Mach 15, and [Particle Shot – Circular Wing Blade] reached Mach 11. As a result, their power increased several times over. With this, I thought I might be able to defeat the Mother Queen Spider of the Garrudo Valley.

If I defeated the Queen Spider, I could obtain the White Dragon Gem. The White Dragon Gem was a key component of the energy-absorbing barrier equipped on battleships, and its purchase price was a staggering 20 billion Krebits. With that money, I might be able to buy an interstellar spacecraft without a space-time jump field generator.
