Fantasy Galaxy Volume 1 Chapter 4 part 6

As we continued to defeat the spider-like monsters, we made our way deeper into the canyon and arrived at a place with a waterfall. According to the information we had, this was where the Mother Queen Spider made its lair. A massive amount of water cascaded down from a height of about twenty meters. The pool at the base of the waterfall seemed incredibly deep. Surrounding the waterfall were densely growing trees.

“It’s too quiet,”

I noted, sensing no monsters around.

“This should be the right place,”

Regina said, tilting her head. Suddenly, something leaped out from behind the waterfall.

“Monster!”

Regina shouted. I reflexively jumped back to escape. Emerging from behind the waterfall was something terrifyingly large—the Mother Queen Spider. This colossal spider, about twenty meters long, had a head five meters high with eight eyes that gazed down at me. Fear welled up inside me.

Then I saw Regina, holding her Lance Driver, calmly staring at the Mother Queen Spider as if she felt no fear. I realized I still have a lot to learn. Compared to Regina, I’m too weak-hearted. I have the means to defeat this creature, so what’s there to fear? Get a grip.

Regina, relying on her natural speed and strength, positioned herself behind me, ready to act. Since I had declared that I would take down the Mother Queen Spider alone, she wouldn’t intervene unless I was in serious danger. I deployed my particle armor and fired a particle shot at the Mother Queen Spider. I used a regular particle shot instead of an enhanced one because the distance between us was too close. If I had used an enhanced particle shot, the blast would have knocked me back as well. The particle shot hit the Mother Queen Spider’s abdomen and exploded. The force of the explosion flipped the spider over, but I was also caught in the blast and thrown to the ground.

“The weakness of this particle armor is that it doesn’t absorb all the impact,” I muttered.

The overturned Mother Queen Spider thrashed wildly, trying to right itself. It didn’t seem too badly hurt. Seeing an opportunity, I launched an Enhanced Particle Circular Blade at its massive head. Whether the spider sensed the danger or not, it desperately scrambled to its feet and leaped to the side. But the flying Enhanced Particle Circular Blade was faster. Traveling at eleven times the speed of sound, it sliced off one of the Mother Queen Spider’s legs. The spider let out a screech that sounded like metal grinding against metal. Hearing it made my head ache. In the next moment, the Mother Queen Spider leaped forward, closing the distance, and swung one of its long legs to sweep me off my feet.

“Ugh!”

Most of the impact was absorbed by the particle armor, but it didn’t prevent me from being flung away. I tumbled through the air and crashed onto the ground, rolling over. The particle armor is amazing for preventing serious injury, but I might be covered in bruises. My head was spinning from the tremendous impact. The Mother Queen Spider was closing in. Reflexively, I fired a particle bullet. This was the attack I practiced the most, so it activated instantly.

“Damn, too close.”

I lie flat on the ground, shielding my head with both arms. I know my particle armor will protect me, but this is an instinctive reaction. The particle shots hits the Mother Queen Spider’s head and explodes. The shockwave threatens to blow me away. I manage to endure it and get back up, only to see several of the Mother Queen Spider’s eyes destroyed as it writhes in pain.

“Acid! Watch out!”

Regina shouts. The agonized Mother Queen Spider spews a cloud of acidic gas from its mouth. I desperately run for my life. Once I reach a safe distance, I glance back. The Mother Queen Spider’s figure looms faintly through the white, fog-like gas.

“Isn’t this our chance?”

I fire an enhanced particle bullet toward the Mother Queen Spider. The bullet flies at an incredible speed, hitting the spider’s body and exploding. The force of the blast shatters its sturdy exoskeleton, scattering chunks of flesh everywhere.

“Got it!”

The Mother Queen Spider collapses to the ground. I think I’ve taken it down with that enhanced particle bullet. To be sure, I fire a particle penetration bullet into it. No reaction. It seems dead. But just as I approach, the Mother Queen Spider suddenly rises and kicks me away with one of its long legs. As I fly through the air in an arc, I briefly think, “A monster called the ‘Mother Queen’ wouldn’t fake its death, would it?” The next moment, I’m slammed into the ground, and the Mother Queen Spider charges toward me. This is bad, bad, bad…

At that moment, I see Regina charging at the Mother Queen Spider. No, her lance driver won’t do any damage. Just as I think that, Regina throws something at the spider. It hits and explodes, slowing the Mother Queen Spider’s pursuit. Regina has created an opening for me. But seeing how tough the spider is—even enhanced particle bullets couldn’t finish it—I hesitate. Maybe continuous hits with enhanced particle bullets could take it down, but I don’t have the time for that.

In a split-second decision, I open the power conduit’s control gate to level one. An uncontrollable amount of Heavenly wave floods my body. I try to shape the bosol particles into a ring-like blade. I feel the Heavenly wave and bosol particles leaking from my consciousness field, and my face contorts. Almost there, just a little more and it’ll take the shape of a ring. I pour all my willpower into it, and the once-cloudy bosol particles begin to form a ring. The moment it solidifies into a ring-shaped blade, I launch it at the Mother Queen Spider. It’s the Enhanced Particle Circular Blade, and I’ve poured more Heavenly wave into it than I’ve ever dared before.

In an instant, it reaches the Mother Queen Spider. The spider thrusts its thick legs in front of its head to shield it, but the Enhanced Particle Circular Blade slices through the legs with ease, cleaving the massive head in two. As it cuts through the chest, it explodes, scattering the Mother Queen Spider’s flesh everywhere. Normally, the Enhanced Particle Circular Blade doesn’t explode, but I must have forced too much Heavenly wave into it. The shockwave blows Regina and me away.

“Ahhh!”

I hear Regina’s scream. Rolling on the ground, I search for her. I find her lying down, and I quickly get up and run to her.

“Are you okay?”

Regina grimaces in pain but seems fine.

“Just a few bruises, I think.”

“Good.”

We need to clean up the Mother Queen Spider’s corpse before other monsters show up. Using tools, I cut open the massive body and retrieve the White Dragon Gem inside.

“It didn’t get destroyed in the explosion. Lucky.”

Regina remarks as she looks at the three-centimeter White Dragon Gem. I wipe it clean and place it in a jewel-like box, storing it in the Dimensional pendant. The rest of the corpse goes into the Dimensional bracelet.

“The Dimensional box really is convenient.”

Regina, with scratches on her face, looks at the Dimensional bracelet. The spoils from hunting the Mother Queen Spider are supposed to be mine, but I decide to share some of the proceeds from selling the White Dragon Gem with Regina. She deserves it for her efforts.

With the cleanup done, I relax for a moment when I hear a voice.

“If the Celestials’s treasure is anywhere, it’s probably behind that waterfall.”

Regina says, looking toward the waterfall where the Mother Queen Spider emerged.

“That’s the only logical place. Let’s check it out.”

I take the lead and approach the waterfall, finding a narrow path leading behind it. We follow the path and enter a space about the size of a soccer field—the Mother Queen Spider’s nest. The ceiling is covered in glowing moss-like plants, providing enough light. The nest is littered with the bones of animals the spider must have eaten.

“Look. There are weapons used by the Dragon Hunters. They must have been killed by the Mother Queen Spider.”

Regina’s expression hardens. I also grow grim. Then, I notice something strange—a white sphere about the size of a bowling ball.

“Is that… an egg?”

Regina sees it too.

“Probably.”

“Should we crush it?”

“No, this planet protects monsters too. Crushing it would be bad. We shouldn’t drive the Mother Queen Spider to extinction.”

So the Dragon Hunter Guild also protects monsters? I see. Monster dragon orbs are valuable resources. As I look around for more eggs, I spot a horizontal passage deeper in the nest.

“Is it there?”

We head toward the entrance and find a metal door with an inscription.

“[Only those who have defeated the Ruler of the Canyon may enter here.] So, only those who’ve defeated the Mother Queen Spider can enter.”

Regina, who’s followed me, looks at me.

“I’ll wait here.”
