Geek Mob Mercenary Chapter 119

Mob #119: “Your Excellency, what are you smirking about?”

[Now commencing the second mock battle.

The battlefield will be escorting and attacking a super-sized combat ship in normal space.

The escorting First Fleet side wins if they can protect the super-sized combat ship from Point A to Point B.

Attacking mercenary team members, don’t hold back and feel free to use ruthless attacks to stop the super-sized combat ship for your victory.

Rest assured, the super-sized combat ship will not use artillery.]

After explaining this to everyone, General Breskin immediately said this to his own subordinates:

[Now then, I tell this to you elites of my unit. Conduct combat befitting the First Fleet.]

It was like a warning and encouragement.

This second battle starting seemed considerably advantageous for our side, but in truth we couldn’t be careless.

The general said the super-sized combat ship wouldn’t use artillery, but of course it would deploy barriers, and though it’s a super-sized ship it probably has 2-3 combat boats it can launch.

It might also use radar and comms jamming, or even charge at us with its huge body—the conditions actually favored their side.

I figured the general understood that and was just being petty.

But the super-sized combat ship didn’t launch any boats, use jammers, or even deploy barriers. It only moved.

Since we assumed support from the super-sized combat ship, this was greatly convenient for us.

Naturally,

[Follow meee!]

that fool Dashed Denogar got cocky.

Despite yelling about command and strategy earlier, seeing an advantage for his side, he charged in without any thought.

At first they did push through.

But gradually they began to get pushed back by the coordinated movements of the opponents.

Then of course,

“Hey you guys! Help me your commander!”

he started whining.

From what I could see, Denogar’s combat ship piloting skill barely reached soldier class.

Miss Shiora Dilopers was probably way above him.

Of course mercenary evaluations aren’t decided solely on that, but his other aspects didn’t seem high either, so he was undoubtedly promoted by connections.

Even so, it was a situation where the First Fleet combat ship unit was stuck purely defending without support from the super-sized combat ship. Being able to go on the offensive against that should have been a given, so getting pushed back showed he was truly hopeless.

He was crying things like [Hurry!] [What’re you doing?!] [We’re finished if the commander’s shot down!], but no one went to help. Rather, they couldn’t afford to help.

Attempting to support resulted in a different unit attacking and obstructing.

The main reason I can’t go for reinforcements is that the enormous battleship that should have been protected comes closer to us at high speed and acts as a barrier. Of course, this enormous battleship probably has a Damage-Feedback-Field System installed, so attacking it would likely cause damage. However, it feels like they intentionally take hits in the heavily armored areas when we attack.

Furthermore, other units attack us from the shadows of this enormous battleship.

In a training scenario, we should try to minimize damage to the enormous battleship, but it seems like the battleship itself doesn’t hold back. It doesn’t seal its weapons; it doesn’t put up barriers, deploy fighter jets, or use radar jammers or communication jammers. It’s as if they are underestimating us, taking minor hits while using their massive size, maneuvering skills, and decision-making to put us at a disadvantage and their allies at an advantage.

The crew and captain of this enormous battleship are frankly more threatening than the battleship fleet.

We’ve tried wave attacks, disruptions, and various tactics, but it only ends up reducing our numbers in vain.

Denoger and the others were shot down early on.

Even Shiola, Diropaz, Bernard, and Seila were shot down.

I suppose Rossweisse could easily hack all their units and render them immobile before wiping them out, but we’re refraining from using such tactics in this training.

Nevertheless, their battleships are slowly decreasing in number, and the enormous battleship must have sustained some damage. If we keep up the attack, we should be able to defeat them, but…

[That’s it for now! The escort battle for the enormous battleship concludes with the victory of the First Fleet Battleship Unit upon reaching the target location!]

The exceptional performance of the enormous battleship and the refined movements of the battleship unit, as seen from the first battle, have determined our defeat.

[Side: Jack Baldur Breskin]

We won this time huh.

Well, it’s only natural since the super-sized combat ship was an ally. Sounds like it was pretty dangerous though.

Since the combat ship unit had veterans instead of the newbies from the first battle, the merc gang must’ve struggled quite a bit.

But we needed to win at least once or else the atmosphere here would get dangerous.

This should raise the newbies’ morale a bit, and they must have learned some things from the first battle, so hopefully they got a little better.

Will the newbies show the military’s spirit and gain victory in the third battle, or will they be crushed without mercy by seasoned mercenaries? Their skill will be tested.

“Your Excellency, why are you smirking?”

The lieutenant colonel beside me spoke up with a puzzled expression.

“Oh, nothing really. I made a bet with an acquaintance over the outcome of this exercise. Looking forward to how it’ll turn out.”

“How inappropriate.”

“Don’t be so stiff. Everyone’s watching.”

“And whose fault is it for getting them involved?”

He’s been my subordinate a long time, yet still so uptight. Must be his personality.

“So. Did you get the mercenaries’ combat data?”

“Yes, to some extent.”

I felt bad about it, but for this exercise I had them collect the mercs’ combat data.

Rather than incorporating it into the damage feedback system, we took analog video recordings from the super-sized combat ship’s cameras and the [eyes] of surveillance satellites.

“Feathered Helmet stands out as expected. His movements and reaction speed are on a completely different level. There was some sloppy movement partway through though.”

“He was probably just humoring the rookies. Like a totally different person was moving.”

The guys actually fighting them must have been super pissed.

“So how did that Dust guy look?”

“In a word, no waste. His movements themselves were like textbook examples.”

I agreed on that point.

Seeing his movements live, the moves themselves faithfully adhered to the fundamentals. Making them easy to read.

But that lack of openings and waste delayed our reactions.

I heard the inner secrets of martial arts come from honing basic techniques to their utmost limit—this was exactly that kind of feeling.

Things are getting sketchy again right after the rebellion.

Ideally I’d like the promising guys here to become subordinates, but… Should I try inviting them to that kind of place?

No, besides the others, trying to recruit Dust would be pointless.

A quick and easy defeat in the 2nd battle.

Author’s note:
Imagine this battleship’s captain is like Yang Wen-li from Legend of the Galactic Heroes with some screws loose LOL
