Mob Villain In An Otome Game Volume 3 Chapter 13

The Love Evangelist and The Knight Who Shouts His Love in Foreign Lands

“Hey, Reubens. Are you really okay with how things are going?”

“What is it, Nels. Coming out of the blue with…”

Reubens had a perplexed look on his face from the sudden question by his colleague. He was currently waiting in front of the castle’s main hall with a few other knights for their lord Reiner and his group to come out. It was then that the knight standing next to him, his childhood friend along with Diana, spoke to him in a nonchalant way.

The knight’s name was Nels – a slim knight with brown hair and thin blue eyes like Reubens. Seeing that Reubens’ perplexed expression didn’t change, Nels continued speaking.

“It’s about you and Diana, obviously. Lord Reed finally pushed you two to start going out, but it doesn’t seem like you’ve made any progress at all…what’s going on?”

“Wha…!? You shouldn’t be bringing that up here!”

Reubens protested in a small voice, his face turning red. But Nels continued with an exasperated look.

“Geez…that’s exactly it. If you react like that just from a little teasing, then it really does seem like you haven’t made any progress at all. Think about how those of us who decided to support you and Diana feel. Including me, all the knights watching you are going to get sick.”

The surrounding knights seemed to be lending an ear to Nels’ words, nodding in agreement silently. He piled on further.

“Moreover, Diana is basically the only girl who is part of the knight’s order. In other words, she’s a rare beauty. I don’t think Diana would ditch you, but there are plenty of knights gunning for her. The only reason those knights have been quietly watching you two is because Diana has been completely devoted to you. Get it?”

The surrounding knights nodded wordlessly in agreement with Nels’ words. Seeing their reactions, Reubens had an embarrassed look on his face.

“Well…I had a vague sense of that, but so it really was the case…”

“You’re dull…too dull. Why is it that you’re incredibly sharp when it comes to swordsmanship and combat, but become so dull when it involves Diana? You dull, chicken-hearted knight!!”

Nels’ words were harsh, but Reubens understood he wasn’t saying it maliciously, but out of concern. Still, being called a “dull, chicken-hearted knight” did sting a bit.

“Sure, I’m no good at romance. But that doesn’t mean you have to put it like that.”

“I’m just a little angry. But I’m even angrier than that. The three of us – you, me, and Diana – have been close friends who played together since we were kids. You’re not the only one who has feelings for Diana.”

“Wha…?”

Realizing the meaning of Nels’ words, Reubens couldn’t hide his shock. He had always consulted Nels about Diana, never realizing that Nels himself had feelings for her too. Nels continued speaking, seeing through Reubens.

“That’s why I’m angry. I heard you two started going out and thought ‘I guess I have to give up’, but you two haven’t made any progress at all. At this rate, it won’t just be me. The other knights pursuing Diana will start making their moves too. Is that really okay with you?”

“No, it’s not okay. I absolutely won’t let anyone have Diana.”

Reubens glared at Nels as he powerfully spoke those words. However, he didn’t seem to realize that he was shouting at the top of his lungs, getting too fired up. Seeing the heated Reubens, Nels goaded him further.

“Hah. Then just how much do you like her? Can you say it right here in front of us?”

Normally, Reubens wouldn’t take such a cheap provocation. But due to the anxious feeling that Nels might have feelings for Diana too, he had gotten overly fired up. Taking a deep breath, Reubens looked around at Nels standing before him and the few knights silently watching.

“Yeah, I can say it. I’m an awkward guy who’s only good at swordsmanship. So this is the only way I can put it…I love Diana. More than anyone, I want Diana!!”

After Reubens finished speaking, silence fell over the area. But to clarify, he didn’t just “speak” – he roared those words at the top of his lungs, loud enough to be heard even in the midst of battle with his knight’s training.

To anyone unaware, they would wonder what was going on.

Nels and the few knights who heard his booming voice up close felt a ringing sensation in their ears. It was then that Nels and the knights’ eyes went wide at the person who had appeared behind Reubens.

“…So you like this Diana person that much?”

“Ah!! I love Diana more than anyone in the worl…”

As he turned around to respond to the voice behind him, his words trailed off midway. Because standing there was Diana herself. Blushing slightly, she asked him again.

“Please say it clearly one more time.”

“I…love Diana more than anyone…in the world…”

Where did the forceful energy from before go? With a completely red face, Reubens mumbled his feelings for her in a daze. It was then that Diana suddenly leapt into Reubens’ chest.

“Reubens, thank you. But I love you too…!!”

It was the moment their own little world had completely formed. Nels, who had provoked him, and the knights who were watching were about to crumble into white sand, overwhelmed by the radiant light of the couple’s world. But then, a presence appeared to pull them back from that world.

“You fools!! What are you people doing carrying on so shamelessly in broad daylight here?”

In addition to Reubens, Diana, and the knights who had turned to sand in shock, everyone was taken aback by the person who appeared along with that voice. At the same time, everyone immediately stood up straight. Yes, the one who appeared was Reiner, his face contorted in anger. Glaring at Reubens and Diana, he shouted with a mix of exasperation in his voice.

“What are you two shouting about in front of the main castle hall, the heart of Renalute? Your exchange could be heard all throughout the estate. Reubens, Diana, didn’t you receive orders from Reed? Get going already, you fools!!”

“Y-Yes!! We’ll head out right away!”

“Understood!!”

Startled by Reiner’s roar, the two happily ran off towards the town below. However, after the couple left, Reiner’s anger turned towards the knights remaining.

“…Now then, which one of you fools provoked Reubens…”

The silent knights all unanimously pointed at Nels.

“Wha…!? You were all listening in and enjoying it too!”

Seeing the exchange between Nels and the knights, Reiner’s rage reached its peak.

“You damnfools!!”

After that day, two rumors began circulating in Renalute.

One was that among the women across the land, it became a popular topic that the Baldia Knight Order had a “Knight Who Shouts His Love in Foreign Lands.”

The other was that Reiner, the Margrave of the Baldia borderlands, was the “Love Evangelist” who commanded the “Knight Who Shouts His Love in Foreign Lands.”

As a side note, this rumor never faded away. Within the nation of Renalute, it was passed down among the people as a famous legend. As a result of this rumor, in later years the number of women in Renalute hoping to arrange a marriage with a Baldia knight increased year by year, or so it was told.

Additionally, based on this anecdote, in later years a stage play called “The Love Evangelist and The Knight Who Shouts His Love in Foreign Lands” was produced in Renalute to great acclaim. The play even became so popular that it was performed in the imperial capital of Magnolia. But that is another story…
