Mob Villain In An Otome Game Volume 3 Chapter 14

Reed Goes to Farah’s Room

“…Sorry for dropping by so suddenly.”

“No, I was actually hoping to talk to you as well…”

After confessing our feelings for each other in the courtyard, there’s an indescribably awkward atmosphere between Farah and me. I’m currently in Farah’s room.

Just a little while ago, I was with Father, but I wanted to discuss the future with Farah, so I asked if it was okay to visit her room. After getting her approval, I immediately headed to Farah’s room.

Once allowed inside, I took a seat as Farah prompted, and gave Diana, who came with me, some instructions.

“Okay Diana, why don’t you go to town with Reubens?”

“Understood.”

Diana blushed a little shyly, bowed to us, and headed off to meet Reubens. Farah and Asna didn’t understand the intent behind our exchange, tilting their heads in confusion.

After that, Farah and I chatted for a while across the table. As we talked, I couldn’t help but smile whenever her ears twitched up and down slightly. It seemed like she blushed a bit when she noticed me smiling too. Then, as if remembering something, Farah muttered.

“Come to think of it, isn’t Diana your bodyguard? Earlier you instructed her to go to town with someone else…”

“Ah, that’s right. You two didn’t know Diana has a lover.”

“Eh, Diana has a lover!?”

Farah suddenly perked up, eyes sparkling with interest in the topic.

“Y-yeah. He’s a knight named [Reubens] from the same order who’s been teaching me swordsmanship.”

A bit flustered by her eagerness, I answered. Asna, who had been standing by Farah’s side, raised an eyebrow slightly. Then she raised her hand and spoke up.

“Excuse me Reed sama, may I ask a question?”

“Yeah, what is it?”

I nodded, and she continued with curiosity in her eyes.

“This Reubens, who is both your fencing instructor and Diana’s suitor, is likely quite skilled at swordsmanship, is he not?”

“…Yeah, he’s probably really strong. I challenge him with everything I’ve got, but I’ve never been able to beat him once.”

I let a tinge of frustration slip out about not being able to win. Asna was strong too, but Reubens was likely even stronger. If I didn’t regularly train with him, there’s no way I could have fought as well against Asna.

“I see, understood. Thank you for your response. There are certainly formidable warriors in this world.”

Asna nodded with gleaming eyes and bowed, returning to a watchful stance by Farah’s side.

Even in this changed world, it seems everyone still enjoys talking about romance. Though Asna’s interest seems a bit different. After our exchange, Farah looked puzzled and asked me.

“But why did you ‘instruct’ them to go to town at this timing? Couldn’t you have just ‘asked’?”

“Ah…well about that…”

I hesitated briefly, but figured they’d find out eventually since they were coming to Baldia. Since they interact with Diana often, even if just for a short while, I thought it would be okay and explained the situation.

Starting with how Diana and Reubens were childhood friends who recently became lovers, I told them they were officially together in the order, but their relationship wasn’t progressing. I even mentioned Diana’s worries she confided in me earlier…maybe I overshared.

At first Farah and Asna seemed amused listening, but when they learned Reubens was still acting coy despite becoming lovers, Asna looked a bit indignant.

“Reed sama, may I speak frankly!?”

“Y-yeah, what is it…?”

Feeling the pressure from her intense demeanor, I nodded hesitantly. Asna slammed the table angrily and continued.

“Reubens’ attitude is unacceptable. A man should make his feelings clear to his partner. Or is that the way of the Baldia Knights?”

I shook my head slightly at her accusation, though unsure myself.

“I don’t know if the Baldia Knights have a particular way with romance, but maybe Reubens just has an especially hard time with it.”

Now that I say it out loud, I’m not sure if the Baldia Knights really have a special approach to romance. Spurred on by her fervor, I was losing track of what I was saying. Then Farah gently tried to rein in the heated Asna.

“Asna, you’re getting too fired up. Don’t you think you’re troubling Reed? Besides, romance is…well, different for everyone, so we shouldn’t really criticize.”

Farah chided her, glancing sideways at me briefly in the process. But the riled up Asna didn’t cool down easily and kept going.

“I understand what you’re saying Princess, but I still believe they should express their feelings clearly. Doesn’t their interaction in the courtyard exemplify that? I believe Diana confided in Reed sama because she saw how you two were.”

“Wha…!?”

Caught off guard by her comment, Farah and I both turned beet red while reflexively making eye contact. Remembering our exchange in the courtyard, I felt my face burning with embarrassment. Farah seemed to recall it too, covering her face with both hands while her ears twitched vigorously.

“Seeing you two, I truly believe you should voice your feelings for each other clearly.”

“…!? Asna, that’s enough…”

Even Farah tried to scold the overzealous Asna, anger flaring up. But then we were interrupted.

“I love Diana, more than anyone! I want Diana!!”

A roaring voice, loud enough to clearly hear from outside the palace, suddenly bellowed. Startled by the commotion, we all tensed up warily. But I realized I recognized that voice.

“No way, Reubens…?”

“Eh, was that loud voice the person you mentioned, Reed sama?”

Farah reacted quizzically, tilting her head.

“Probably, I’m pretty sure it was…but what in the world are those two doing…”

“I see, so Reubens is a capable one, that’s reassuring. However, to shout such words in front of this nation’s central palace…he is perhaps ‘a knight professing his love at another nation’s heart’, wouldn’t you say?”

While Farah and I were dumbfounded, Asna seemed satisfied, nodding approvingly. Then another booming voice rang out from outside.

“You fools!! What are you doing so brazenly in broad daylight here?”

We tensed up again at the sudden shout. But we all quickly realized it was my father’s voice. Not long after Father’s roar, I put my hand to my forehead and muttered with a sigh.

“Ughh…what in the world are you doing getting involved too, Father…!?”

Farah and Asna exchanged wry smiles at the rapidly unfolding events. With an amused look, Farah turned her gaze to me.

“Fufu, and if Reubens is ‘a knight professing at another’s heart’, then your father reining him in must make him ‘a evangelist of love’. And you, Reed, must be…’love’s scion’?”

“Fufu, you have a way with words, Princess. We should teach those nicknames to the maidservants too.”

The two giggled mischievously. Seeing this playful side of Farah made me feel a bit happy. But teasing my father might not be great for her in the long run. I cleared my throat and gently advised her.

“Farah, it’s fine to tease me, but don’t go too far with my father. He’ll be like a father to you too before long.”

“You’re right. My apologies…”

Farah gasped, blushing as she lowered her gaze and twitched her ears. Seeing her reaction, I felt a bit embarrassed by my own words and changed the subject awkwardly.

“A-Anyway, what is your mother like? Her name was LAdy Eltia, right?”

“…Yes, my mother is [Eltia Riverton].”

What’s wrong? Farah’s expression suddenly dimmed, a stark contrast to how she was earlier. Asna seemed to notice her shift in demeanor too. She cleared her throat and gently spoke to Farah.

“Princess. Though I may be overstepping, I believe you should tell Reed. He will find out eventually either way, so I think you should convey the matter regarding Eltia directly.”

“…You’re right. Understood. Thank you, Asna.”

Thanking Asna, Farah regained her composure and looked squarely at me.

“I would like to tell you about my mother and myself, if you don’t mind.”

“Got it. Your mother will be like a mother-in-law to me.”

Matching her serious expression, I looked into her crimson eyes. Farah took a deep breath and slowly began telling me about her mother, Eltia Riverton.
