- Memories of Summer
The procurement team that had gotten caught up in the incident was surprisingly released quickly from the knight’s encampment.
Since the culprit had been safely apprehended, and Addis and Claude were only bystanders who weren’t injured, the knights’ questioning of them was straightforward. As for Raze, Milgard who remained behind handled that, so the collection went smoothly without issue. The rest was up to the Quartz team.
“Raze, are you physically okay?”
After bidding farewell to those who had helped them, as the three of them set out walking, Claude asked Raze once more.
“I’m fine. It’s not like I was seriously injured or anything, so I can make it back to our meeting hotel.”
Their means of returning was Raze’s teleportation magic. Thinking that might be a concern, she assured them it wouldn’t be a problem.
“…I see. But please rest a bit when we get back today. Getting flung by that poacher’s ship…”
“About that…”
Raze stopped walking. Claude and Addis turned back towards her.
“If possible, could you keep this from Lady Carne and Folia? Of course, reporting to our guardians is fine, but I’d rather not worry those two in particular.”
“……..”
This was the type of response expected from the members of this procurement team.
Still, receiving a look like they wanted to argue, Raze added:
“What with what happened last night, I only have today and tomorrow left. Since it turned out okay, I just want to switch gears and enjoy the rest of the time!”
Saying those heartfelt words with a smile, they exchanged glances and shrugged.
“…Understood.”
“I’ll tell the prince, but keep quiet about it otherwise. Sound good?”
“Yes, thank you.”
Raze nodded at their answer.
“Well then! Shall we go buy souvenirs before heading back?”
She took a step forward, her expression shifting to a mischievous grin, not having forgotten.
“You still haven’t given up on that?”
“Yes. It would be disappointing to come all this way and only have sample papers as souvenirs.”
Saying she already had something in mind, Raze led the two.
After purchasing their intended items, it was ten minutes before the meet-up time.
“You took way too long choosing!”
“Well, everything seemed like it would suit Lady Carne and Folia!”
“You two, that’s enough. If I’m escorting and we’re late, how will the prince see that?”
The three exited the shop overlooking the sparkling sea ahead, continuing their lively conversation.
“I’m teleporting!”
At Raze’s word, they vanished from the water city like bubbles popping.
“We’re back.”
Arriving at the high-class hotel located in the mountains rather than plateau, Raze was relieved they made it in time.
“Ah, welcome back!”
“I was waiting. It was far away so I was getting worried.”
“My apologies. I got a bit carried away choosing souvenirs and it became cutting it close.”
Raze glanced at Addis and Claude wearing exasperated expressions beside her and gave an wry smile.
It seemed their paper procurement group was the last to arrive. The destination of Raze’s teleport was the nearest marking point to the meeting hotel. From there, hopping towards the visible hotel, they arrived ten minutes before the meet-up time. And after being guided by the hotel staff, they got here three minutes prior. Cutting it close. The point they had moved from Beeham was one Raze’s subordinate had used for their wedding venue in this highland resort area.
“–Hey, Raze, that outfit?”
It was Folia who first noticed.
She pointed out Raze’s clothes were different from her departure attire, before even wondering about the souvenirs.
Raze glanced at Addis who had bought it for her, then gave an awkward smile.
“Actually, I got it wet at the sea.”
“–! The sea! Was it beautiful?”
“Very. Let’s all go together next time.”
“Yeah!”
With Raze’s cheerful response, Folia eagerly continued the conversation.
Meanwhile, Claude reported to Carne that the paper procurement went smoothly, and Addis called Ruben over.
Once everyone had gathered, it was decided to have lunch, and as usual Raze’s eyes sparkled at the hotel cuisine.

“Wow, we all have matching ones!”
“Yeah, there were so many varieties, I had a really hard time choosing.”
What Folia was intently examining were the seashell and bead bracelets.
After resting a bit following the meal, Raze, Addis and Claude distributed the souvenirs they had bought.
“Thanks Addis! Having matching items amongst our group gives a nice sense of unity!”
“Really? I think it’s kind of embarrassing though…”
Watching Ian immediately try putting on the one he received from Addis, Luca muttered.
“Embarrassing? What is?”
“Eh, do you perhaps dislike matching items, Luca sama?”
Folia’s worried query combined with innocent question overwhelmed Ian.
“N-No, it’s nothing…”
But he soon let out a noise, seeing Addis chuckling in amusement before him.
(Basically, it matches with Folia’s. He can’t throw it away.)
Watching from the side, Raze smiled. Ian made that remark and Luca looked displeased, but she knew he couldn’t refuse it. At least Raze understood he had been assisting Folia’s special combat training sessions not just out of kindness since last year.
“Thank you Raze. Lovely souvenirs.”
“I’m glad you think so.”
Raze was happy Carne liked them too.
She had actually considered making the paper itself the souvenir. So when she found these bracelets, she initially passed them over to look for something else.
But after the robbery incident, she decided these were the right choice after all.
While not expensive, she wanted something tangible to remember this by. A memento of these memories.
Having something physical would give Raze Granoli a sense of truly being present as a student.
“It seems the trouble of agonizing until the last minute paid off.”
“Yes!”
Raze blushed in agreement with Claude who finished handing out the bracelets to Ruben.
“You can wear them on your wrist or ankle of course, but attaching them to bags as keychains works too apparently.”
“I see. –Then I’ll put it on my pencil case.”
Taking Claude’s suggestion, Ruben came up with an idea. As expected of him to find a neat way to use it.
Raze was grateful for Claude’s advice, as having even the highest nobility wear these bracelets would have been concerning.
After moving away from the group, Raze observed everyone’s matched sets.
“Hmm? Ah, can’t put these on alone?”
Hearing the troubled voice, she approached Ian.
“Putting it on already?”
“Yeah! These are the wish granting ones that break, right? Gotta put it on early so it breaks faster!”
His characteristically dazzlingly positive remark.
Having some idea of his wish, Raze extended her hand.
“Want me to put it on for you?”
“Sure, thanks.”
She tied the bracelet around Ian’s outstretched left wrist. If it needed removal, the knot could easily be untied.
“There you go.”
“Thanks. I’ll work hard to make what I said before come true!”
Despite his nobility, he somehow suited wearing such accessories without seeming out of place, a puzzling man.
Raze gave the grinning Ian a “I’m cheering for you” nod.
“…Somehow this is reminiscent of giving out competition ribbons…”
Nearby, Luca commented while observing the two.
He was referring to the tradition of loved ones embroidering ribbons for warriors, praying for their safety before battle. At the academy competitions, girls tended to give them to lovers, fiances or crushes.
Understanding his implication, Raze remained unfazed.
“Lady Carne gave me one last summer.”
“…Now that you mention it, she did.”
Seemingly satisfied, Luca didn’t seem too amused.
“…But I’m sure the special student has other close people who’d give her bracelets?”
Then Addis delivered a killer pass, causing Raze’s eyes to widen.
“Eh…? Well, I suppose so. There’s a favor I can only ask that person. Even if I get turned down, I still plan to make the request.”
“Heh! Even Granoli has acquaintances like that? What kind of person?”
“Someone more elegant and capable at life than me – the kind you’d want as a wife.”
Ian asked about her talking about someone outside the academy, which was rare, so Raze candidly conveyed her usual feelings about Julius.
“Wha–??”
Addis stiffened upon hearing her comment, though Raze didn’t notice.
“Ah! Could it be the person who delivered a lunchbox for Raze-chan during last year’s tournament?”
“Yeah, that’s the one. Actually, that lunchbox and the jelly snacks were homemade by that person too. You remembered?”
While one blue-haired boy was left dumbfounded, Folia and Raze carried on their chat.
“It was my first time seeing one of Raze-chan’s acquaintances. that person was incredibly beautiful and cool”
“Right?!”
Raze proudly boasted, happy that her close friend Julius was being praised, with a sense of camaraderie like female friends.
“Raaa-ze? I’ll have to hear aaaaall about this person tonight, ok?”
“Eh?”
Then for some reason, Carne smiled wryly with an displeased tone and grabbed Raze’s arm, leaving Raze dumbfounded. She had no idea what might have upset Carne’s mood, leaving a large question mark floating above her head.
“–We should get started on the work soon. Our time to gather like this is limited.”
Though curious about Carne, when Ruben reminded them of the time, the conversation was put on hold.
