The Devil Princess Volume 4 chapter 13 part 2

Oh my!

Playing with my sister is truly delightful!

For a moment, I was worried that she had truly lost herself after joining the so-called “hero” (laughs) party, but it seems she matured just right. Leaving her alone back then was the correct decision.

However, staying in a place like this could have a negative impact on her soul, so it’s time for her to exit.

“Fanny, please escort my sister outside. We’ll enjoy ourselves once we’re back.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Stop joking around! I’m here to expose your misdeeds, I—”

“What will you do, Eurushia-sama?”

“Look at me!”

“The space ahead is distorted and has turned into a maze… Noah, do you have a plan?”

“Hey!”

“Then, let’s send a thousand of our subordinates ahead. That should help narrow down the correct path.”

“…What? A thousand? Subordinates? I didn’t hear about this!”

“Listen up!”

Raising your voice in the middle of a serious conversation is undignified, sister.

Well, Noah and the others are already acting as if she doesn’t exist since I decided on her exit.

“Ugh!”

“…Huh?”

Completely caught off guard… and by a surprise attack from a powerless “human,” I I dropped Rinne from my shoulder and was sucked into the large door along with my sister, who had pushed me.

And then…

“…You’ve done it now.”

“…Hmph!”

The place we were sucked into was similar to where we were before, yet entirely different in dimension.

It’s almost like the human world, but with a slight difference, similar to the fairy realm. Staying here too long might cause mutations in the soul or body.

“Eurushia!”

“Master, are you alright?!”

From the still-open large door, I could hear the voices of Rinne and my attendants. There’s a bit of noise, but it seems we’re not completely cut off from their dimension.

“I’m coming to you now!”

“You mustn’t. Based on the sensation of being sucked in earlier, you might end up in a different place.”

I gently touch the darkness of the large door. This won’t work.

“It seems impossible to return through this door. I’ll search for another way, so follow my presence.”

“Understood!”

“…Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“Yes, Rinne.”

Now then…

“It’s just the two of us now… sister.”

“It’s just the two of us now… sister.”

The voices of the others echoing from the large door faded away, and the “girl” before me spilled those words into the dark room.

Eurushia von Versenia. The “princess” of the Holy Kingdom of Taliteld, recognized as the “Holy Maiden of the Holy Kingdom,” and praised by the people as the “True Saint.” She is the half-sister of Ataline.

Ataline couldn’t respond to the words of this unrecognized “sister.”

Sensing that something had happened, Ataline left her companions and headed alone towards the vortex. She left her sister Aureline behind because she believed that if she didn’t hurry, something bad would happen.

Eurushia had plunged into the “black vortex,” which even the “hero” and “holy warriors” of the Holy Kingdom couldn’t enter, and seeing the worried expression of that person, Ataline’s chest tightened.

At the same time, she felt anger towards Eurushia for acting on her own. Eurushia isn’t a normal human. She must have a hidden side, and everyone is deceived by her outward appearance.

That’s why Ataline, to expose Eurushia’s true face, ventured alone into the “black vortex,” which only those with “malice” could enter.

At that moment… she heard the voice of “that person” trying to stop her, but it only strengthened her resolve.

However, being just a human, Ataline got lost in the demon’s labyrinth, was saved by Eurushia’s attendant, and ended up pushing her master, Eurushia, into the large door, leading to the current situation.

“…………”

Eurushia’s intended message was clear. Recalling their conversation, Ataline realized they were no longer in the original place and might never return, causing her to pale.

Eurushia gazed at Ataline with gentle eyes.

“We can’t return to the original place anymore. We don’t even know if it connects to that world. This is a maze, so who knows how many months it will take to escape. There’s no food or water. How long will the air here last?”

“S-shut up!”

Ataline couldn’t help but shout at Eurushia, who calmly stated the facts.

In such a situation, Eurushia’s attitude, as if she were enjoying herself, seemed to mock Ataline for her own recklessness that led them into this crisis.

“If we jump in multiple times, maybe we’ll return to the original world…”

Desperate to find a way out, Ataline racked her brains. If she didn’t give up, maybe they could return. But such hopes were easily crushed by Eurushia’s words.

“Next time, we might not even have air. What if we end up in water? Lava? Or the fairy realm? Falling into a normal space was already incredibly lucky.”

“T-that’s…”

Indeed, that possibility existed. Knowing this, Ataline couldn’t argue and felt her strength leave her as she knelt.

“But sister, you’re amazing. You didn’t bring Aureline with you.”

“Shut up…”

“She would’ve had her heart broken in half a day there. How many days can you endure, sister Ataline?”

“Shut up, shut up, shut up!!”

“Raising your voice like that will only drain your energy. Aren’t you thirsty?”

“…………”

Now that she mentioned it, Ataline did feel thirsty. Her belongings had disappeared somewhere. They truly had to escape this place with just the clothes on their backs.

The word “death” floated into her mind. Realizing this, her heart grew colder.

“What will you do, sister?”

There’s no way she could know.

“We might die here.”

There’s nothing left to do.

“Did you want me dead that badly?”

At those words, Ataline couldn’t help but look up.

“…No.”

“Then why?”

Pressured further by Eurushia’s gentle yet piercing questions, Ataline felt regret and tears welled up.

“…Because you… you’re suspicious.”

“Why?”

At her heart’s strained confession, Eurushia pressed further.

“You’re scary… you don’t seem human…”

“Is that so?”

Despite such harsh words, Eurushia smiled as if it didn’t bother her.

“So, you wanted to kill me?”

“No! You’re still Father’s daughter! If I did that, Father would be sad!”

“After all the times you’ve defied Father?”

“N-no!”

“Then why?”

With an unchanging smile, Eurushia continued to press Ataline.

Each word cracked Ataline’s heart, and tears began to spill.

“…I love Father… Mother loved Father too, but I said terrible things and hurt him. But if we got close to Father, Mother would be sad! So I said a lot of terrible things! I even made Aureline say them…”

Her kind and wonderful father, whom she loved dearly.

Her mother, Albertine, truly loved her father but continued to make mistakes, unable to be honest, and kept hurting him. So Ataline, to stand by her mother, had no choice but to play the “villain.”

But this only hurt her beloved father more, distanced herself and her sister from him, and even took Aureline away from their father.

The voice of her heart, spoken only when faced with death. Tormented by regret, Ataline cried, and Eurushia whispered to her like a confessing nun.

“Can’t you be honest?”

At those words, Ataline almost nodded but shook her head instead.

“It’s… too late. I’ve done so many bad and terrible things. There’s no way the people in the castle would accept someone like me…”

“You did terrible things to me when we first met.”

“…………”

“Did you hate me that much?”

She had indeed done terrible things. But even admitting the reason felt taboo. Yet, the shell around her heart had already broken.

“…Yes, I hate you. You took Mother away, took away our pride as nobles, and took all of Father’s love from us… you and your mother… I hate you…”

Eurushia’s unchanging smile blurred with tears.

“…I was jealous…”

The hidden words spilled out from her broken heart.

“…You… got along so well with Ludrick…”

“Did you do terrible things to him too?”

“Yes. We met when we were little… he was younger… so cute… I fell in love… I wanted to get his attention… so I did a lot of terrible things… sniff… and then… the engagement… was called off… I…”

It was the story of a little girl’s love.

She fell in love with a boy she met when she was young.

She wanted him to notice her, but she didn’t know how, and being a strong-willed girl, she couldn’t be honest with the younger boy. She could only show herself by causing trouble for those around her.

Because of this, the royal family called off the engagement, and her heart grew even more troubled. Yet, the girl only knew how to repeat bad things to get someone’s attention.

But she still loved him, still loved him dearly…

“You tried to protect him from a scary girl like me.”

“…Yes.”

“…Sister…”

“…Huh?”

Hearing that trembling voice, Ataline instinctively looked up, and Eurushia clung to her chest.

“…Eurushia…”

“Sister.”

Feeling the trembling voice clinging to her neck, Ataline realized her misunderstanding.

The earlier words weren’t meant to blame Ataline for her recklessness. Eurushia had used strong words to break the shell around her heart and draw out her true feelings.

It wasn’t because she was a saint. Eurushia, as her “sister,” had always worried about her like this, and Ataline finally understood. She tightly embraced her beloved “sister.”

“…I’m sorry… I’m sorry… Eurushia… for being such a terrible sister…”
