Epilogue
The day after the fortress defense battle ended, while the soldiers were reveling in their victory drinks, Colonel Gedol and Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto were in the military office.
“…Did Lieutenant Hazen really say ‘Bring the Emperor’?”
“Y-Yes. Without a doubt.”
“Kuh…Kukukuku…Kukukukukukuhahahahaha! Hahahahahahaha!”
“C-Colonel Gedol. This is no laughing matter.”
Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto slammed the desk, looking furious.
“I have never cursed my existence as much as now. I have lived to dedicate myself to the Emperor’s majesty, only to suffer such humiliation.”
“Ah, my apologies. I wasn’t laughing at you, Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto. But at that insolent fool, of course.”
“…However, I also silently consented at that time.”
“What are you saying? Hazen’s wordplay won’t work. And you were acting under force majeure, unable to defy him, weren’t you?”
“Y-Yes, of course.”
“Then it’s no problem. The fact is that man committed the crime of insolence. No matter what achievements he had, only the death penalty awaits him.”
“Y-You’re right! No, absolutely!”
Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto felt genuinely relieved.
“I never expected that man to make such a ridiculous blunder. And after bringing us the best possible outcome, no less.”
“Yes!”
In this battle, the faction of Major Barosag who fled from the enemy would never be able to face Colonel Gedol, who led the tenacious defense of the fortress, again.
After all, they had given up on Colonel Gedol, the commander of this fortress, and retreated on their own accord. They probably planned for the rest to retreat later too, but it was a grave miscalculation.
And from then on, whether to spare or execute them would be at Colonel Gedol and Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto’s discretion.
The battle victory report should have reached them by now. Perhaps at this very moment they are foaming at the mouth in shock, or hurriedly making their way to this fortress in stunned silence.
“Kukuku…Well, if Lieutenant Hazen prostrates himself and apologizes in tears, I may forgive him. No, Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto likely won’t permit it.”
“Hehehe…Yes. That brat will have to eat horse dung at the very least. Gobble it up.”
Colonel Gedol and Lieutenant Colonel Shimanto’s raucous laughter echoed loudly down the hallway.
“……”
At that moment, the black-haired youth leaned against the door and let out a small sigh. Eventually, Adjutant Bazz arrived and asked:
“Lieutenant Hazen? Is something wrong?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
With an innocent smile, Hazen casually left the area.

Afterword
Hello, my name is Kanon Kosaka. I want to truly thank you for picking up this book. Thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in publishing this, as well as the illustrator Kurogiri (the illustrations were superb), we were able to reach this day.
However, I must first and foremost thank all of you who have been reading this story until now.
I am currently writing on the web novel site Kakuyomu, but for an author (or perhaps just me), it is very difficult to keep writing without people reading your work. Having that sense of “being read” is hugely motivational for continuing to write. Fortunately, this story received a great response from readers, allowing me to keep writing to this point.
It has already surpassed one million characters, and the story is still ongoing, but I hope you will continue joining me on this journey.
Enough with the formalities.
The concept behind “The Imperial Officer” is “Damn you superior officer!” It’s a story about Hazen Heim eliminating incompetent superior officers who look down on others due to their prestigious family name. However, despite the relatively straightforward premise, the setting is quite complex in some ways.
Just who is Hazen Heim?
What is his true objective?
I think those are some of the highlights to look forward to in this story, so I hope you enjoy watching those aspects unfold.
A brief note about Yan’s “Gabiin” exclamation. This is entirely my own indulgence as the author, but I think it’s quite a superb expression. Not “Gaan” or “Zun”, but “Gabiin.” This is the one and only way. Basically, what I want to say is that I plan to have Yan keep exclaiming “Gabiin” going forward, so I would be delighted if you could warmly watch over this girl’s growth.
I sincerely hope that as the story progresses, Hazen, Yan, and the other characters will take up residence in your hearts and remain active there.
Thank you for your continued support.
