Mob No. 114: “Then do it yourselves, you bastards!”
Third Party Side
It was obvious to the mercenaries that the workers were combat amateurs, but they couldn’t help hesitating for a moment when they saw the universal terminal’s call standby screen that was the detonation switch.
Just then, workers who hadn’t joined the uprising arrived.
Seeing their comrades, they had looks of shock, confusion, and anger on their faces.
“What the hell are you guys doing, kitted out with such dangerous stuff!”
“We’ve reached our limit! We’re gonna slaughter those damn nobles! You’ve been mistreated by nobles too, right?!”
“And what’ll you accomplish doing this?! You’ll just get killed by the military and police!”
“You afraid of that?! We want to escape this life as soon as possible!”
The members who had risen up didn’t seem to listen to their coworkers’ words at all.
Rather, it looked like some of the workers who hadn’t risen up even sympathized with their comrades’ cries from the heart.
Having heard the exchange, the leader of the risen up workers said to the mercenaries who held the detonation switch,
“So help us out! Become our comrades! And slaughter those damn nobles together!”
He urged them again to join their cause.
“So in other words, since you lot are amateurs yourselves, you want us veteran mercenaries to attack the nobles while you watch from on high?”
In response to their call, the mercenary at the front looked at them askance as he posed that skeptical question.
“We’ll participate in the attack too! We won’t leave it to others!”
Although the leader of the risen up workers declared they would join the attack as well,
“Then do it yourselves, you bastards!”
The mercenary at the front fully rejected them, flipping them off.
The other mercenaries also seemed to agree, looking at them mockingly.
“And, having you mercenaries work for free rubs me the wrong way the most! If you want us to join, pay 3 million credits per head right now! Do that, and we’ll properly do the job!”
The mercenaries harmonizing with his words started cackling at the risen up workers.
Of course, this fee wasn’t the normal rate – it was presented to dismiss their demands.
“No way we can pay that much!”
Naturally, the risen up workers became enraged.
There’s no way they could pay such an amount when they were already living such hard lives.
“Then negotiations are over.”
The mercenary at the front made a dismissive gesture at them while stealthily reaching for the gun at his waist.
“Stingy bastards!”
And the moment the leader of the risen up workers showed intent to press the detonation switch, the mercenary at the front shot through that universal terminal along with the leader’s hand with his ray gun.
Taking that as a signal, the other mercenaries aimed their ray guns and thermal ray guns at the unprotected legs and weapons of the risen up members, firing repeatedly and suppressing them in an instant.
“There’s no way amateurs can beat us mercs. Don’t resist anymore.”
The mercenary at the front pointed his ray gun at the leader and prompted him to surrender.
With his hand shot through, the downcast leader glanced resentfully at his universal terminal and muttered softly,
“Why didn’t it explode…”
Third Party Side: End
While restraining the unconscious worker, or rather, anti-imperial activist, staff members soon arrived, so I
“introduced” by saying,
“This man was trying to plant bombs.”
They hurriedly took custody of him.
At that time, I heard that the main force of the anti-imperial activists had occupied the passage to the parking area and were soliciting comrades from the mercenaries.
Hearing that, I thought it might’ve been better if I was there and it turned into a bigger gathering.
Well, stopping the bombs is more important though.
I had them take the anti-imperial activist to the office, and while waiting for the police, asked one of the staff members present to handle my processing.
Now I can leave anytime.

After the police came and arrested the anti-imperial activists, once the scene investigation and questioning was over, I went to the parking area and it seems the mercenaries who had mainly negotiated with the anti-imperial activists had become minor heroes.
The mercenaries joked about being heroes and discussed how to deal with the mass media, while young female staff, workers, and newbie mercenaries cried out excitedly as they surrounded them.
Considering the media might arrive soon, I should slip away from here quickly.
I quietly left the colony, squeezing through the edge of their group.
Worker Side: Third Person Perspective
In one of the smoking rooms inside the colony, around 10 workers who hadn’t joined the uprising wore grave expressions, heaving deep sighs.
“Geez…they’ve gone and done something outrageous…”
“Yeah…our job was just to gather intel on this country. That’s why we joined the so-called anti-imperial movement, but they went all in!”
“Well, I get it. Whether here or there, we get the same treatment. And with the reforms slowly taking root here, it left an opening they took advantage of.”
“On top of not having any info about those weird red beam combat ships from the recent civil war that put us in dire straits, those idiots had to go do this!”
They all showed dejected expressions, shifting to looks of anger and impatience.
“Should we help those guys? Might be better to assist them.”
“No need to worry. We just have to feel sorry that we were shocked by colleagues suggesting such things and couldn’t stop them. We truly never imagined they’d go so far.”
While they worried about their arrested colleagues, the worker who seemed to be their leader made a statement cutting them loose.
Thinking about that, they took out universal terminals and made calls to somewhere without speaking, immediately ending the call.
“Alright, on to the next site! Don’t be late!”
As if switching mindsets, the leader clapped and spurred on his comrades.
“No break?”
“Our shift’s the same as this time, so no problem.”
“Oh right! Pay back those 20,000 credits you borrowed for bets on the last planet race.”
“When payday comes…”
Chatting about trivial things, the workers left the smoking room.
[–Now for the next news story. Today, a work colony at the maintenance site for the gate of Planet Leoaeodudo was temporarily occupied. An attempted bombing terrorism also nearly occurred, but fortunately it was prevented by the mercenaries guarding the site, all perpetrators were arrested. However, while being taken away by police, all the perpetrators suddenly coughed up blood and died on the spot. The autopsy found capsules containing poison had been implanted in their bodies, and when those were ruptured the poison circulated causing death. With suspicions they were anti-imperial activists, to prevent information leaks their deaths were ruled as suspect deaths and the case was sent to prosecutors with no further investigation–]
