The Young Lady’s Challenge

I met Mr. Shaun Lyatt two years ago.
At that time, when I was eight years old, I was helping with my father’s business operations. For a certain contract partnership, I was headed from Planet Beantenz to Planet Soarcul on a scheduled shuttle.
However, just before departure, there was a malfunction with the door to the VIP private lounge, causing me to miss the scheduled shuttle.
Furthermore, the scheduled shuttle to Soarcul had some trouble and was suspended indefinitely with no return date set. With this, there was no way I could make it in time for the promised appointment.
As I found out later, this was the doing of an executive at Riquiel Enterprises who didn’t like that a child like me held the position of vice president.
While I can understand not liking a child being a vice president, causing harm to the company is an issue.
At that time, upon my butler Thomas’s suggestion, we decided to charter a cargo ship.
The ship that happened to be selected for the trip to Planet Soarcul belonged to Mr. Shaun.
Understanding the situation, Mr. Shaun promised to fly at a slightly higher speed than usual.
The meal served during that voyage was a seemingly ordinary-looking demiglace hamburger steak.
This may sound impertinent, but I think my palate is quite refined for my age.
So at first, I dismissed it as nothing special.
The first bite tasted like a typical demiglace, but as I continued eating, I found myself gradually becoming captivated by it.
Moreover, all the meals provided during the roughly sixteen hours until our arrival were delicious!
Of course, the meals prepared by my home chef and maids are delicious too, but the deliciousness was of a different variety, if you can understand what I mean.
I became insatiably desirous of Mr. Shaun’s cooking skills, and ever since then, I request his services whenever I meet him.
This time, I happened to see him on our company’s scheduled shuttle.
Since his ship was apparently lost, I’ll take this opportunity to make my move.
But first, I must tidy up my appearance.

This is my first published work. My name is To Ryu.
The offer to publish this work in book form came from the editorial department of Shingensha Publishers, which surprised me when I heard their name.
After all, Shingensha is known for their pricey but coveted [Illustrated Series] books that I had read for reference since childhood but could never casually purchase, despite wanting the whole set.
However, I didn’t know they were involved in publishing novels, so I was quite astonished.
For a publisher leaning more towards fantasy to publish my science fiction work caught me a bit off guard, but it somehow came to fruition.
In discussions with the editor, it was decided to proceed with very few changes apart from the episode titles.
I don’t know what will happen going forward.
Since this work originated from a whim, the setting is quite slapdash, and hardcore sci-fi fans will likely have issues and find some parts convenient for the story. Nevertheless, I hope you can enjoy it.
The illustrations by Kouhakuhoshi depicting Shaun and the three sisters were simply lovely.
Having clear visuals of characters I had only imagined in my head allows various ideas to expand.
To the point where I seriously considered having Shaun wear a frilly apron, though I imagine he would object.
To be honest, with the haphazard nature of the content, I have many anxieties. But thanks to the editor, the illustrator Kouhakuhoshi who took on the art, and all of you readers, I am grateful that this work could be published.
I would be delighted if we have the chance to meet again.
