After Sario left the Mystical planet Volan, I continued hunting monsters. But being alone made me feel lonely, and I found myself thinking about Earth more often.
“I want to return to Earth, but I don’t even know where it is.”
I didn’t remember the location of the solar system. Without knowing its position, I couldn’t go back. I could have searched the stellar database on the planetary information network using the types of planets in the solar system, but hundreds of stars matched the same criteria. I gave up on searching for Earth and continued my daily routine of hunting. One day, after taking down a Rampaging Boar in the Sisuca Grasslands, the head of the procurement department, Vezetta, told me to go see the Center Director. After cashing in the Rampaging Boar, I went to the Center Director’s office. Inside, a middle-aged male were-cat was working at a large desk. The Center Director, a were-cat named Muzika Dessero, seemed to be in charge.
“Zen Jinguji. What’s going on?”
After staring at me with his cat-like eyes, the Center Director gestured for me to sit down.
“I’ve reviewed your performance. As a result, I’ve determined that you’re ready to hunt outside the Sisuca Grasslands. You’ve been promoted to Rank F.”
With the promotion, I was able to move to a higher floor in Guest Tower. I was given two new key cards and had to return the old ones after moving.
“Thank you.”
At the time, I didn’t realize how rare it was to be promoted within three months of joining the Dragon Hunter Guild. Normally, people spend about a year hunting in the Sisuca Grasslands, and even the fastest take around six months to move up from Rank G. My case was exceptional because I had consistently taken down Rampaging Boars, which are considered difficult for Rank G hunters. Rank G mages typically struggle with smaller insect-type monsters and can’t take down a Rampaging Boar in one shot.
“Your [Particle Bullet] seems unusually powerful. Why is that?”
It seemed he had watched the footage of my battles with monsters recorded by my achievement badge.
“Isn’t it normal? When I was fighting monsters in space, I needed that much power to take down Space Cliones.”
At that time, I was using [Particle Shot], but [Particle Shot – Piercing Bullet] was probably similar.
“Hoh, so you were fighting space monsters. No wonder you use such powerful tactical magic techniques.”
Hearing that, I didn’t understand what he meant. When I asked the Center Director, he explained that normally, one would fight monsters on the ground to gain experience before heading into space to battle space monsters. Both the Black Forest Belva and the Kilimas Mountain Range lack roads suitable for Hunt Cars, so Dragon Hunters apparently use hoverbikes to get around. This made me wonder how they transport their prey. When I checked the Planetary Information Network, I found something interesting. Most Dragon Hunters seem to call for transport personnel affiliated with the guild to carry their prey, but the transportation fees are apparently quite high.
There was another method, one I never would have expected as an Earthling. If you defeat a threat level 3 Tyranodragon Bergona in the Belva Forest and obtain its Dragon Orb, you can apparently craft a device called [Dimensional Storage]. Dimensional Storage creates a storage space in another dimension, allowing you to store and retrieve items. However, the Dimensional Storage made from a Tyranodragon Bergona’s Dragon Orb is called a [Dimensional Box], and its capacity is equivalent to a space roughly twenty meters in length, width, and height. Of course, it costs five million Krebits to make, but it’s worth it—if you have the strength to defeat a Tyranodragon Bergona, that is.
The Tyranodragon Bergona is said to be a massive, fifteen-meter-tall, bipedal dinosaur-like monster. Its Dragon Orb is located in the center of its chest, so you need to take it down without destroying that area. A fifteen-meter-tall monster, huh? Could I defeat it with [Particle Shot]? …No, [Particle Shot] might cause an explosion that could destroy the Dragon Orb. I pondered this as I returned to my room in the guest tower.
Using my Smart Glasses, I searched the Planetary Information Network for information on Dimensional Storage. It’s a convenient item, so the demand is high, and purchasing one requires at least several billion Krebits. If Krebits are equivalent to Japanese yen, several billion Krebits seems way too cheap. But that’s probably because I’m thinking from an Earthling’s perspective. Dimensional Storage is expensive, but it’s not rare within the Space Alliance. I really want one. I wondered if there was a better way and searched the Planetary Information Network. I found a site called the “Basic Magecraft Course,” which introduced foundational magecraft techniques. Among them were [Particle Shot] and [Particle Shot – Piercing Bullet], which I learned are two of the three basic magecraft techniques. The third one, I discovered, involves shaping Bosol particles into a ring-like blade, similar to a chakram, and launching it. This technique is called [Particle Shot – Circular Flying Blade].

The next day, I headed to the Sisuca Plains to test out the new tactical magecraft technique. I found that when I launched Bosol particles shaped into a ring at high speed, the flight trajectory was unstable. So, I decided to spin it. Whether it was the gyroscopic effect or something else, the trajectory stabilized. I practiced over and over until I mastered the technique of accurately launching the ring-shaped blade, which I called [Particle Circular Flying Blade]. As my accuracy improved, I gradually increased its speed. First, I accelerated it to the speed of sound. With the power of the Heavenly wave, which can accelerate small spacecraft, this was easy.
The Particle Circular Flying Blade, accelerated to the speed of sound, cleanly sliced through a tree about fifty centimeters in diameter. Could this defeat a Tyranodragon Bergona? No, the Planetary Information Network stated that Tyranodragon Belgoras are as tough as rock. To test it, I launched the Particle Circular Flying Blade at a rock about two meters in diameter. It cut about thirty centimeters into the rock before dissipating. Not good enough. I decided to increase the speed. I accelerated the Particle Circular Flying Blade to five times the speed of sound, Mach 5. The Mach 5 Particle Circular Flying Blade cleanly sliced through the two-meter rock and embedded itself into the rock behind it.
“Nice! What if I increase the speed to ten times the speed of sound?”
While Mach 5 seemed powerful enough, I decided to experiment with Mach 10. The moment the Particle Circular Flying Blade, now twice as fast, struck the rock, it exploded. “This is bad!” I thought, dropping to the ground and covering my head with my arms. After the shockwave passed, I looked up to see the surrounding area in ruins. Trees near the rock had been snapped in half. I sighed and stood up.
“That was rough. Maybe I’ll stick with Mach 5.”
I considered compromising but decided to continue experimenting. I found that at Mach 7, the Particle Circular Flying Blade didn’t explode.
“I’ve got an offensive technique, but I’ll probably need defense too, since I might take hits.”
It dawned on me that I hadn’t thought about defense, and it made me a little nervous. The Planetary Information Network likely had information on defense methods, but the sheer volume of content made searching time-consuming. And it wasn’t just the Planetary Information Network. The [General Knowledge of Civilization Level C] and [Heavenly wave Engineering] given to me by the Zolfienne of the Rikagel Celestial Race also contained vast amounts of information, and understanding it all would take years, if not decades.
I didn’t have that kind of time, so I consulted Sario. According to Sario, the solution was to purchase and use an [Information Support Butler]. This product apparently organizes the vast knowledge in your brain and the information on the Planetary Information Network, enabling efficient research. However, Information Support Butlers are only available on planets with advanced medical technology, so I couldn’t get one on Planet Volan.
I checked the Basic Magecraft Course for useful information and found that mages use a defensive technique called [Particle Armor]. This involves covering the body with Bosol particles and reinforcing it with Heavenly wave to create a robust defense. Heavenly wave can make Bosol particles as tough as steel or as elastic as rubber. Due to its high versatility, [Particle Armor] is designed and structured differently for each species.
Some mages even devise their own unique Particle Armor. The Basic Magecraft Course didn’t go into detail, so I searched online and found something called [Standard Human-Type Particle Armor]. I decided to use it as a reference to build my own Particle Armor. This Standard Particle Armor is different from powered suits—it’s a high-performance armor without muscle-assist functions.
Back in my room at the guest tower, I constructed the Particle Armor based on the information I gathered online. First, I enveloped my entire body in Bosol particles, then used Heavenly wave to process the areas that needed to be reinforced first. Bosol particles can bond using Heavenly wave as a mediator. Depending on how they’re arranged, they can become hard or soft. This time, I arranged them to be hard and sturdy. Next, I processed the joint areas to be strong yet flexible. It didn’t feel heavy, but it was hard to move. So, I spent time adjusting it.
