Ship Operation Log Volume 1 Chapter 5 part 3

“Unfortunately, we do have them prepared.”

Sara confidently presented a bowl containing the soy sauce eggs I had made.

“Th-those are…!”

“Yes, the ‘Jeweled Soy Sauce Eggs’ that were such a hit six years ago that we kept getting requests for them.”

The moment they saw it, Pong and everyone around froze in their tracks.

“N-No way! I had soy sauce eggs gathered from all over the republic, but none of them matched!”

“Then try eating these.”

Sara had Pong and those around him try the soy sauce eggs in the bowl she offered.

After a while of chewing sounds,

“Delicious…that same deliciousness from back then…these are undoubtedly the Jeweled Soy Sauce Eggs!”

“There’s no mistaking it! And the flavor is even more refined!”

“But how…I scoured the entire republic trying to find someone who could make them, but came up empty handed…”

“It can’t be…it just can’t be…”

While everyone else showered the eggs with praise, shock, and rapturous words, only Pong seemed unable to comprehend the situation.

As the others around us were moved to tears by the eggs, I was frowning.

“Say, Maya…why do the soy sauce eggs I made have such a grandiose name like ‘Jeweled Soy Sauce Eggs’?”

“Remember that time we got into a situation like this before and you made those for us? The next year, people demanded to know ‘Aren’t you going to serve last year’s eggs?’ When I said no, they called them ‘a treasure’ and demanded ‘bring us those beautiful jewels!’ And somehow the name ‘Jeweled Soy Sauce Eggs’ just stuck naturally after that…”

Listening to Maya’s sheepish explanation was giving me a headache.

Why did the simple soy sauce eggs I whipped up to pass time on a voyage get saddled with such an embarrassing name straight out of a cooking manga?

No wonder the the Vrbs kept demanding seconds when I served them as a side dish during the voyage – they must have realized they were the real deal.

“But if that’s the case, why didn’t the the Vrbs point that out?”

“Probably because they didn’t realize they were the ‘Jeweled Soy Sauce Eggs’. Shaun is Sumerian, so they likely assumed only a Draconian could make eggs that delicious. The ‘face’ can be similar sometimes.”

But now that they knew of my connection to the Drakken family, they surely understood.

But what did she mean by ‘face’? Had we met before?

As I cradled my head over these thoughts, a sudden rumbling shook the ground.

“Madam Drakken! Allow me to make my offering first!”

“No, no! Please, accept mine ahead of yours!”

“Eek! Out of my way! I was first!”

“No, I was clearly ahead of you!”

A massive crowd surged forward, forcing their potluck dishes on Richelina as they took bowls of my Jeweled Soy Sauce Eggs from Sara.

“Out of my way, you lot!”

“Guah!”

A burly aunty in the crowd sent Pong and his attendants flying with a body slam and tail combo.

From then on, it was pure pandemonium.

No matter how many egg servings I doled out, the line never ended, and my egg supply dwindled as the dishes I got in exchange piled up.

Fortunately, thanks to Uncle Edgar bringing in the employees and my grandparents to help out, it became much easier.

About two hours after the potluck exchange began,

I finally ran out of soy sauce eggs.

There were some people I couldn’t trade with, but they resigned themselves to it.

“Well, I’ll go get the catering for the banquet then.”

“I’m counting on you, dear.”

Uncle Edgar said he wasn’t too tired yet and headed for the parking lot with some staff in tow.

“Come to think of it, we’re having the banquet here, right?”

It was odd to have the banquet at this very venue, but apparently it’s tradition.

“Yes, to show our gratitude for the potluck dishes. By the way Shaun, you did set some eggs aside for us, didn’t you?”

Maya gave that explanation, but seemed more concerned about having soy sauce eggs reserved for our family.

“Yeah, I kept some. In fact, you’re the one who put the first batch I made aside, Maya.”

“That’s right”

In the midst of such casual conversation, a figure suddenly appeared.

“So that means…… the creator of the [Jeweled Boiled Egg] is that human woman! No wonder I couldn’t find her no matter how hard I looked. I never thought a human could make something so delicious! All right! Human woman! From today, you will be my mistress! We’ll sell the [Jeweled Boiled Eggs] and make a massive fortune!”

The figure, Pong-Shonks, came rushing at us with an expression filled with frenzied delight and lust.

Likely intending to grab me by the neck, he would probably demand I sign a contract unless I wanted to be killed, making use of the exceptional physical abilities unique to Draconians.

However, his movements were amateurish.

I grabbed Pong’s arm and, rotating my body, threw him with a back body drop, slamming him to the floor. Then I took his arm, hyperextended the joint, and stepped on his neck with my foot.

Even against a Draconian, this should be enough to break the bones in his neck.

I immediately glared at his henchmen, who were indeed trying to pull guns, likely ray guns, from their pockets.

Incidentally, carrying weapons is prohibited in this venue.

“Don’t move! Move and I’ll snap his neck!”

I put force into my foot, making the arm I was gripping creak.

“Don’t move! You guys! Absolutely don’t move!”

Pong commanded his henchmen in a pitiful voice.

Following his orders, the henchmen stopped moving.

“Stay still like that until the police arrive.”

However, ignoring Pong’s orders, the henchmen drew their guns

“Like hell we’ll help that guy!”

and began firing at us.

I immediately leapt back, but Pong, who had been knocked to the floor, couldn’t dodge in time and the laser hit the arm I had grabbed.

“Gyaaaaaaaaaaaah! It huuuurts!”

Pong let out an incredible scream.

That said, the wound seemed to just be a graze, not life-threatening.

At the same time, it became clear that Pong could not be used as a hostage.

Fortunately, since I was near a wall, no one else was hit.

Seeing this, the people around immediately fled the scene, escaping out of the venue.

Of course, my sisters, Grandpa and Grandma, Richerina san, and the employees also headed outside.

In any case, the first priority was to approach and subdue them.

But just as I was about to move,

“Help me! I’ll pay anything!”

Of all things, Pong clung to my waist.

“Let go! If you want help, let go!”

“No! Don’t leave me!”

No matter how I tried to pry him off, his draconian strength meant I couldn’t shake him loose.

Seeing this, his henchmen grinned at me as they pointed their guns my way.

But the moment they aimed at me, one of the henchmen let out a groan and collapsed to the floor.

“Yo! Sorry for the wait! It took time to get those bastard’s arrest warrants issued!”

The one stepping on the fallen henchman’s head was my sister Tina, brandishing her favorite long electromagnetic baton.

The henchmen tried to turn their guns toward her, but were promptly knocked down and restrained by the police officers who had approached.

Of course, the worm Pong was also restrained as the ringleader, but still arrogantly spouted:

“Let go! Hey officers! I’m the head of the Shonks family! This human woman suddenly threw me for no reason! I was just trying to make her my mistress! And those guys opened fire on their own! I didn’t do anything!”

Even restrained, this guy was quite bold with his words.

He even insults the very person he clung to for help.

Putting aside his henchmen’s actions, my throwing him was self-defense.

Then a brown-scaled Draconian man approached

and showed us a 3D holographic document projected from his handheld device.

“Pong-Shonks. You have outstanding warrants for 765 counts of tax evasion, 573 counts of extortion, 401 counts of theft, 168 counts of kidnapping, 634 counts of robbery, 810 counts of sexual assault, and more cases of assault, battery and murder than I can be bothered to count.”

The man wore a tattered trenchcoat the same color as his scales.

However, his piercing gaze exuded an aura that showed he was not to be trifled with.

“I don’t know anything! It’s all trumped up charges!”

“Unfortunately, we have all the evidence. Not to mention all your ‘friends’ and close ‘uncles’ have already been apprehended. Too bad for you. There’s no one left to cover up your crimes.”

Upon hearing those words, Pong’s face turned deathly pale and he collapsed to the floor.

The brown-scaled man cuffed Pong’s arm, then said with a salute,

“Thank you for your cooperation. Well then,”

before swiftly leaving the venue.

“So this is the end of the Shonks family…”

Watching Pong and his men being led away, Tina muttered under her breath.

“Thank god you’re okay, Sis Tina.”

Brushing some dust off myself, I thanked my sister.

To be honest, in that situation, having guns pointed at me left me helpless.

If I’d been shot, it wouldn’t have just been an injury.

“Then as thanks, how about five omelets??”

“……Yes, yes. I’ll make them however you want – with green onions, ground meat, shrimp, eel, anything.”

“Nice! It was worth putting up with those annoying old farts’ long-winded crap to get those warrants! Oh, but make one plain!”

Seeing her delighted smile, I decided to keep secret my slight gratitude toward the Starflight Corporation, whose major transportation request had triggered this whole incident.

The Brown-Scaled Man

“Hello? It’s me. I’ve successfully apprehended Pong-Shonks and all related accomplices.”

[……Thank you. With this, the Shonks family has been destroyed. A threat to us has been eliminated.]

“They’ve been a blight for too long. Those scumbags…”

[This incident has caused you all a great deal of trouble…..]

“You have no need to apologize. If anything, we at the GCPO should be criticized for our negligence. This success is owed to the dedicated investigation by your local authorities.”

[……No, no. I was little more than a figurehead…..]

“In any case, we can now enjoy the Festival with no lingering concerns.”

[Yes. And this time, there was an unexpected bright spot as well, by sheer chance.]

“Ah yes, the [Jeweled Boiled Sauced Egg]. Its creator was Sumerian Shaun-Lyatt a cargo transporter associated with Drakken family, one of the heroes of this case.”

[No matter how many restaurants and food stores I searched, I couldn’t find it. When I ate it on that ship, I almost cried out but somehow held it in……]

“I wish I had gotten one as well.”

[Sister. Another guest, it seems…pardon me.]

“You seem busy.”

[No, please excuse me.]

“Well, I should be going.”

[Yes. Thank you again.]
