Fantasy Galaxy Volume 1 Chapter 3 part 9

The woman stood up. She was about 175 cm tall, with a well-trained physique and stunning beauty. Her cat ears left a lasting impression. On Earth, I’d have thought it was cosplay, but here it felt natural. And she was gorgeous—top-model level.

“I’m Regina Tabott, Rank D. Just some bruises, so I’m fine. Thanks for saving me.”

Her tone was blunt, but the gratitude was there. I asked her about the giant wolf. In response, she questioned whether I hadn’t heard the warning from the Achievement Collection Badge.

“Seems my homemade particle armor blocked the warning.”

“You should probably improve it.”

I sighed and nodded, then asked about the warning’s content.

“I see. By the way, can you make it back to town?”

As I said that, Regina frowned.

“What’s wrong?”

“My hoverbike’s a bit far away.”

“Then I’ll give you a ride on mine.”

I took out the hoverbike from the Dimension Box, and we flew to where Regina had left hers. It was my first time flying with a beauty behind me. Despite my age, I couldn’t help but feel a little excited. After retrieving her hoverbike, we headed toward town. Along the way, we stopped at a hospital for proper treatment. Then, we went to the Dragon Hunter Guild, where we were immediately summoned to the Center Director’s office. Regina was with me. We entered the room and were invited to sit on the sofa.

“According to the report from the Achievement Collection Badge, you defeated the Black Beast Wulfad, correct?”

“Yes, we unfortunately encountered it and had to fight.”

Director Dessero sighed.

“Still, for a Rank D to defeat Wulfad… What were you doing before coming here?”

“I was a soldier.”

The Director nodded as if it made sense. He assumed my military training was why I could take down Wulfad. In reality, I’d only been briefly trained by the Goblin tribe. My ability to defeat Wulfad was likely thanks to Zolophiene, who’d given me the knowledge to control massive amounts of Heavenly wave.

“The report also mentions you took down your fifth Tyranodragon Bergona. You’ve been promoted to Rank C.”

“Thank you. This means I can head to Guilda Canyon.”

“Hmm, are you planning to search for the treasure the Celestial Clan is said to have left behind?”

“Yes. No one’s found it yet, right?”

The Director nodded.

“True, but we don’t even know if it really exists.”

It might not actually exist, but I still want to challenge myself to search for the hidden treasure. Even if the result is disappointing, it will still be an experience, so it won’t be a waste.

“Guild Director, why was I called?”

Regina asked.

“Ah, it’s because we received a report from a dragon-hunting soldier named Gimel. He said that despite the guild’s warning, you continued the hunt, encountered Wulfad, and were killed. I wanted to confirm the situation.”

Upon hearing this, Regina’s eyes narrowed, and an angry expression appeared on her face.

“Those guys… they were the ones who insisted on continuing the hunt.”

I turned my gaze to Regina.

“Maybe it’s better to cut ties with people like that.”

“I will.”

After finishing the conversation with the Guild Director, I updated my dragon-hunting soldier card and officially became Rank C. Then, I went to the procurement department to request the dismantling and purchase of the Tyranodragon Bergona and the Black Beast Wulfad. The Tyranodragon Bergona had valuable parts like the dragon gem and its hide, which are used in the core components of the dimensional box, totaling about 2.1 billion Krebits. On the other hand, the Black Beast Wulfad had a blue dragon gem, which is used in Luon Drives, and was exchanged for 1.3 billion Krebits. Over the past six months, I’ve exchanged three Tyranodragon Bergona and one Black Beast, so my interstellar bank account now holds 7.8 billion Krebits. It’s enough to live comfortably for the rest of my life, but it’s far from enough if I want to buy an interstellar spacecraft.

Interplanetary spacecraft and interstellar spacecraft differ in structure, so their prices are completely different. Additionally, the need for a spacetime jump field generator and a Luon Drive drives the price up even further. However, if you skip the spacetime jump field generator and instead pay for the use of jump rings for interstellar travel, you can get a cheaper interstellar spacecraft. My goal is to buy an interstellar spacecraft without a spacetime jump field generator and then install the one I have stored in my dimensional box.

I checked the prices of used spacecraft on the planetary information network, but interstellar spacecraft large enough for inter-stellar trade cost hundreds of billions of Krebits. Even small, used combat ships suitable for dragon-hunting soldiers cost hundreds of billions. The kind of used ship I can afford is a small interstellar spacecraft built by some rich person as a hobby, and it’s quite old. This type of spacecraft can only transport a few passengers from one star to another and can’t do much else. If I take it to dangerous areas for dragon-hunting missions, it would likely break down immediately. Ideally, I’d like a combat ship that I can also use for dragon-hunting, but at my current rate, it would take over ten years to save up enough money.

The next day, I went to the Dragon-Hunting Guild and used the dedicated terminal to look for used ships. This terminal also provides information gathered exclusively by the guild, so sometimes you can find unexpected bargains. However, there were no such bargains this time. The only available option was a combat ship for dragon-hunting soldiers built by a civilization at level D, but it cost 76 billion Krebits.

“This is way too expensive. I can’t afford it.”

“What can’t you afford?”

I turned around upon hearing the voice and saw Regina standing there.

“Ah, it’s about the spacecraft.”

“Are you planning to leave Chiratia?”

“Since I’ve reached Rank C, the only way to rank up further is to fight in space.”

To raise my dragon-hunting rank to B, I need to defeat several monsters with a threat level of 4 or higher. Since such monsters are rare on planets, I’ll inevitably have to fight in space.

“I see, so that’s why you’re looking for a spacecraft. But combat ships, even used ones, cost hundreds of billions, right?”

“Exactly. With the money I’ve saved, I can’t afford one.”

“So that’s why you’re planning to search for the treasure left by the Celestials.”

“Correct. It seems like the only way.”

“But in the Gilda Canyon, there’s the Mother Queen Spider. It’s said to be stronger than the Black Beast Wulfad.”

In the case of the Black Beast Wulfad, I was lucky enough to damage its leg first, which slowed it down. If I hadn’t, it would have been much harder to land a hit, and I might have been killed instead. Even with particle armor, it’s not foolproof.

“The Mother Queen Spider, huh? What kind of monster is it?”

I was about to look it up, so I didn’t know the details yet.

“I’ve looked it up before. Want me to tell you?”

According to Regina, it’s a giant spider with a body length of 20 meters. The troublesome part is that its exoskeleton is incredibly tough, far beyond normal standards.

“I’ve heard that the three basic tactical magic techniques can’t defeat the Mother Queen Spider.”

“My [Particle Shot – Circular Flying Blade] is more powerful than the average one, but would it still not be enough?”

Regina shook her head. Saying this might make her angry, but the triangular ears on her head twitched cutely.

“What are you looking at?”

Regina gave me a cold stare.

“Nothing. Anyway, even with higher power, it wouldn’t work?”

“It depends on how much higher. It would need to be at least five times more powerful to be effective.”

Is my [Particle Shot – Circular Flying Blade] five times more powerful? Thinking calmly, it probably isn’t. That means I’ll need to learn another tactical magic technique.

I parted ways with Regina and returned to my room in the guest tower. Now that I’m Rank C, I live on the 60th floor. This guest tower is pyramid-shaped, with fewer rooms on higher floors. However, each room is larger, about eight times bigger than the initial one. Sitting on an expensive-looking sofa, I took out my smart glasses and put them on. I searched for tactical magic techniques using shorthand language.

Looking up tactical magic techniques beyond the three basics, it seems that mages have developed various schools of thought. On this planet, Boran, there are two such schools. The term “school” feels a bit old-fashioned for a technologically advanced world, but here, the Pomeol and Ganufes schools compete in developing tactical magic techniques.

The next level after the three basic techniques is called the Five-Grade Magic Techniques. There are many types, with numerous techniques developed to convert celestial force into powerful electromagnetic waves for attacks. By the way, when we say electromagnetic waves, we often think of radio waves, but light and infrared are also electromagnetic waves. One of the representative techniques is converting celestial force into laser light for attacks. Normally, light radiates in all directions unless something blocks it, with wavelengths and phases scattered. In contrast, laser light is directional, traveling in a straight line with aligned wavelengths and phases. The phase of light refers to the timing of the wave’s peaks and troughs, and laser light has synchronized peaks and troughs.

“That’s as much as I can find online.”

How to convert celestial force into laser light is a secret of the schools, so there’s no information about it on the planetary information network. I’ll need to think of another way. Then it hit me—I could observe other mages using their tactical magic techniques. I remembered seeing a post on the Dragon-Hunting Guild’s site recruiting temporary team members. If I join as a temporary member, I might get the chance to see other mages’ techniques.
