Her Majesty’s Command Volume 1 Chapter 3 part 3

“I knew something was off! Someone as gorgeous as Shirakawa-san wouldn’t just suddenly fall for me! This was all part of your plan, huh?! I was actually starting to like you—!!”

Heartbroken, I try to storm off, but Captain Shirakawa chases after me and grabs my hand.

“Wait, wait! Sure, recruiting you was the goal, but I really do think you’re great, Madarame-kun.”

“I’m not falling for it agaaain!! A stunning older woman like Shirakawa-san would never go for a younger guy like me!”

“That’s not true,”

she insists.

“I actually prefer dating younger guys like you, Madarame-kun.”

“Liar!”

“It’s true. I’ve got zero romantic experience, and with all the older men around, I feel like I’d be the one getting tricked. But with someone younger, I’d be the big sister—less chance of getting played. Plus, you seem safe, Madarame-kun.”

“That’s the most practical reasoning ever!”

“Is that bad?”

Her cute tone makes me stop in my tracks. Against my will, I turn back

“A wise decision… I guess!”

Captain Shirakawa cups my cheek.

“Come on, don’t sulk like that.”

“But—”

“Fine, fine.”

She tightens her grip on my hand.

“Then let’s start as coworkers, okay?”

“You’re not giving up on recruiting me…?”

“Well, if we’re close, we’ll understand each other better, right? If we date, I want to do it properly.”

Then, blushing slightly, she adds:

“I think there’s still a chance for us, Madarame-kun!”

“Your Majesty~, wake uuup~.”

I shake the blanket-covered lump in the bedroom of British shop.

“You’re sulking way too much~.”

I’d told Her Majesty about being recruited by Captain Shirakawa, and she hated it.

Since she claims Yomisaka Town as her territory, Shirakawa—a Japanese government official—is an unwelcome foreign force. Her Majesty glares every time she sees uniformed cops or patrol cars.

“Cheer up already~.”

“I am not sulking. My pride is king-sized. I don’t get petty or angry.”

“Then why won’t you come out from under the blanket~?”

“…My stomach just hurts a little.”

She’s curled up inside.

“I turned them down properly! Said I’m still in high school~.”

Last night, I got home late and explained what happened—only for Her Majesty to start pouting.

“A true loyalist wouldn’t even give them a chance to recruit you,” she declared.

She’s mad that I left an opening for them to approach me.

As expected of someone who calls herself Her Majesty—her possessiveness is off the charts.

“Your Majesty, let’s go out and pla—I mean, let’s search for Kuromari-chan!”

“You just said ‘go out and play’!”

“N-No, I meant—”

“Madarame, your loyalty is lacking! Deeply lacking!”

While we’re arguing, Hana-chan walks into British shop. Lately, she’s been coming over to help—cooking meals, doing Her Majesty’s chores, and hanging out with us.

“What are you two doing?”

“Ah, Her Majesty’s sulking—”

“Eeeh~?”

Her Majesty pokes her head out from under the blanket and says to Hana-chan:

“This idiot was about to run off to another woman.”

“Huh? Madarame-senpai did?”

“A twenty-year-old woman. Captain of some immortal-hunting organization. He came home yesterday with hearts in his eyes. [Her chest was captain-class too. Hehe. Maybe I should join~], he said.”

“I absolutely did not say that!”

“Senpai…”

Hana-chan glares.

“That’s awful! Just awful!”

She starts whacking me.

“I know I’m just a first-year with no adult charm yet… b-but in a few years, I-I’ll…!”

So: Shirakawa recruited me, Her Majesty sulked, and Hana-chan pummeled me out of jealousy.

And in this situation, I realize:

Huh—

I kinda feel… crazy popular right now!

It feels amazing!

As I’m basking in the thought, Her Majesty slips out of bed and starts dressing herself.

“You can dress yourself?!”

“We’re hunting the Holy Grail.”

She buttons her blouse.

“We’ll claim it before that ‘Shira-what’s-her-name’ does.”

“You definitely know her name.”

“I’ll make her regret this.”

“You’re so petty!!”

And so, every day, we head out into town with our fishing rods. It seems that you can’t catch Kuromari with Yurumari, but I don’t mention it. Pointing out Shirakawa’s correction would hurt Her Majesty’s pride—and honestly, I’m just happy hanging out with her.

Thanks to Shirakawa’s “angel squads,” the town’s safety has improved drastically. White-coated agents are everywhere now. No more immortal attacks, and even demons have quieted down.

A few times, I’ve stumbled upon the captains fighting.

They demolish demons effortlessly.

The Angels use swords or guns—standardized gear.

“They all have famous angels as guardians, granting them unique powers,”

Yanagishita once explained.

“Mine’s Sandalphon, by the way.”

“What can you do?”

“When I activate my ability, no one can detect my presence.”

“So cool~!!”

While wandering with Her Majesty, we often run into Shirakawa and Yanagishita—maybe because our patrol routes overlap.

And just like Kuromari-chan and Yurumari-chan, Her Majesty and Shirakawa hate each other.

The usual pattern goes like this:

We take a break during our Holy Grail search, stopping at a restaurant from a gourmet manga. Then Shirakawa—also influenced by manga—shows up with Yanagishita for lunch.

Their eyes meet. The battle begins.

“Hey hey, Madarame-kun, changed your mind about joining? I’ve got the paperwork right here~.”

“Madarame isn’t interested. Shoo, shoo!”

“I was talking to him, though~.”

“Madarame, any woman in a white coat is bad news. Stay away.”

“Says the girl in gothic Lolita who calls herself ‘Her Majesty’!?”

“Grrrrr!”

“Mmmmph~!”

And so on.

Her Majesty despises Shirakawa as a foreign government agent. Meanwhile, Shirakawa sees Her Majesty as an unregistered immortal troublemaker who should be under Onmyo Bureau oversight.

Their relationship is awful.

Things got chaotic when Kuromari-chan sightings popped up on social media.

Her Majesty and Shirakawa were together when I checked my phone. Naturally, they both raced to the location—each determined to claim the Holy Grail first.

First, Her Majesty casually trips Shirakawa. Shirakawa faceplants but quickly gets up and yanks Her Majesty’s collar from behind. Despite her slender arms, Shirakawa’s freakishly strong—Her Majesty gags as her neck is squeezed.

By the time we arrive, Kuromari-chan is long gone.

Her Majesty and Shirakawa are a mess.

“This is getting unprofessional,”

Yanagishita sighs one day.

The two are hurling donuts at each other (again).

We’d been enjoying afternoon tea at a donut shop when Shirakawa’s group walked in—cue chaos.

“Having childish superiors is exhausting,”

Yanagishita mutters.

“Well, Shirakawa is younger than me, so it’s understandable.”

“Wait, really?”

“I’m twenty-five this year.”

She flashes a peace sign.

“Truth is, I do have captain-level power.”

“Whoa, dropping cool facts outta nowhere?!”

“Shirakawa’s the strongest fighter, but she relies too much on strength and hates paperwork. My job is grooming her as a future bureau chief.”

“So you’re babysitting her here too.”

“Exactly. As a leader, she needs to get along with everyone.”

Including Her Majesty, apparently.

“Their petty fights are tanking our efficiency.”

“But how?”

“The fastest way for adults to bond? Drinking. A party.”

“That usually works, but… will it here?”

“If it fails, at least it’ll be entertaining.”

I imagine Her Majesty and Captain Shirakawa drunkenly yelling at each other.

“True, that might be funny.”

“Though I bet we’d end up carrying our bosses home.”

“I’m underage, so I can’t drink.”

“I can’t handle alcohol either. Let’s seat those two at the counter while we watch from a table in the back.”

And so, amid doughnuts flying overhead, Yanagishita and I finalized our plans, picking the bar and the date.

When we loudly declared, “We’re throwing a drinking party!”, Her Majesty and Captain Shirakawa reluctantly nodded, their faces smeared with sugar. Turns out, neither of them can refuse when their subordinates insist—typical of those kinds of bosses.

The day of the party, it rained.

That night, Her Majesty and I waited outside the bar under our umbrellas for Captain Shirakawa and the others.

“Hey, they’re not here yet—five minutes late. A bit disrespectful, don’t you think?”

“They’re still working. Unlike us, they’re busy.”

“…………”

We waited a while longer, but they never showed.

“Should we go inside first?”

“No. We’ll wait.”

“Manners?”

“It’s more fun if we go in together.”

So, we kept waiting outside the bar.

Under the hazy glow of rainy-night lights, amid the passing crowds and cheerful voices, we stood there holding our umbrellas.

After thirty minutes, I finally told Her Majesty we should go in.

Her shoulders were soaked.

“They must’ve gotten urgent work.”

I ushered her inside, seated her at the counter, and ordered light snacks.

“The city’s safety is thanks to them, huh?”

Captain Shirakawa’s team was like an immortal police force. If you looked closely, they were everywhere, swiftly arresting rogue immortals.

“Government power really is something.”

“Angelic strength helps.”

“They took down a horde of demons at the hotel in seconds too.”

I’d never seen Captain Shirakawa struggle or get hurt. I figured someone that strong would wrap up work quickly and make it to the party.

To kill time, Her Majesty and I played music on the bar’s jukebox and messed around with the pinball machine.

She refused to drink.

“That’s for when Shirakawa’s idiot squad gets here.”

That’s what she said.

But no matter how long we waited, they never came.

By midnight, Her Majesty was dozing off, elbows on the counter, until she finally fell asleep.

She was an early-to-bed, early-to-rise type.

“Guess she was really looking forward to it.”

I muttered to Her Majesty, slumped over the counter.

“At least you made a friend to throw doughnuts with.”

I swiped Her Majesty’s credit card from her wallet and paid the tab.

“Let’s call it a night.”

Shaking her awake, I guided the bleary-eyed Her Majesty back to the British shop.

The next day, we went back to wandering the city with fishing rods, but we never ran into Captain Shirakawa or Yanagishita like usual.

This went on for days.

After too long without seeing or hearing from them, I stopped an angelic guard on patrol and asked about Shirakawa’s team.

What I learned was news of Yanagishita’s death.
